should be a quick question but..

do Evo seats have side airbags in them like the new age Subaru's?

as you might have guessed, or read in my intro thread, I'm looking to swap seats, and unfortunately my WRX comes standard with side airbags. Before I swap anything I would need to mod the seat before I install anything, by either disabling/adapting my stock side airbag for the seat, switching over the seat heaters (I'm always cold, I'm canadian.. ), and switching over the passenger seat weight sensor.

Also, does anyone have pictures of the difference between the different generations of the Evo seats?

Are you thinking of swapping Evo X seats into a WRX and rigging it so the airbags would work? I'd be careful about doing that. The airbag design is undoubtedly specific to the Evo, and if it were ever used in a WRX it might do more harm than good.

no, I would be placing a resistor to trick the SRS system into thinking there is an airbag installed. But the seat weight sensor would need to be switched over, along with the seat heaters.

the main reason why I was asking about the airbags, is as you all know, airbags are considered explosives, and to get those across the boarder into Canada would be tricky or if not impossible to say the least.

so does anyone have any pictures of the difference between all the seats, or is there a thread that already has this information on it?

(sorry for the double post)

Ahh, okay, that makes much more sense.

IMO you should sit in the different seats and see which one fits the best. The VIII/IX seats are based on the Recaro Sport and are a bit wider than the X seats. The seats in the X didn't feel as comfortable to me (I've got real Recaro Sports in my STI, and the difference was pretty noticeable).

Also, VIII/IX seats don't have side airbags, so you'd have less trouble importing them.

Swapping over the occupant detection system should be pretty straightfoward (I kinda wish I had tried harder to find IX MR seats, now that I've experienced what it's like to swap the occupant detection system into a real Recaro Sport. What a PITA!).

If it makes you feel better, IX MR seats are the same as all other IX seats, save for the red stitching on the SEs and (full) leather on the SSLs.

Perhaps IX MR is too specific, maybe any IX seat would have been suitable -- I was on the lookout for black seats, because the blue in the VIII seats would have looked out of place with the other shades of blue in the interior.

yeah, the seats I'm trying to find are some IX ones.. without the red stitching.. all black, no leather or at least minimal leather. Hopefully those can be found relatively easy and for relatively cheaper price tag.

but thanks everyone for your help so far.

hey.. one other quick question.. but how do the stock recaro's mount.. are they a bottom mount? side mount? etc.. and who makes bases for them? obviously the mounts won't work from a EVO to a WRX.. so I'll have to get custom bases built for them or buy pre-made ones.

This is getting way off topic for the X forum, so it probably will get closed before too long by the mods. In the meantime, here is a thread that may be of use to you: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/interior...seats-sti.html

I'd just do a search on NASIOC and IWSTI, I've seen a couple other people do a similar swap and you should be able to find out what they had to do to make them fit.
