Test drove an Evo X GSR ... impressions inside
than the previous two iterations.
Oh, and I forgot to comment on one thing that I found somewhat irritating ... the little computer display needs to be cycled through to get to the coolant temp gauge reading. No longer is there a separate gauge for coolant temp ... it's buried in the computer menus.

Surely if something vital to the engine were to malfunction, it would indicate in the same way, but that is just a guess. And thanks for the sig fodder by the way. That thread had me rolling.
It comes down to RESPECT for others property.
A commodity in short supply in a lot of people. Not sure if it's ignorance or they don't care.
^My thoughts exactly, and nebo I agree that even if the recommendation in the manual is only one way to break in the motor and tranny, and that redlining is ok for break in by some people's opinion, that it should be left to the owner of the car how he wants to break in HIS car. It's not someone else's right to decide how those first few precious miles are driven.
agreed, I don't like performance cars driven much before , its a grey area because meybe there should be a test drive unit... But not letting people test drive ones that is for sale... I wouldn't buy my gtr if it has test drive miles on it, it better have under 10 miles !!!

You know it kind of pisses me off that the mitsu dealerships are letting people test drive the cars who aren't showing real signs of buying. I can tell you this ludi, I appreciate the write up, but the owners manual clearly states that you aren't supposed to take the car above 5000 rpms and that even getting up to 5000, the motor should not be under full load, ie full throttle. ...

Thats why they should have a demo model that people can beat on, so that people don't get a new car with 15 hard *** miles from some jerk that doesn't care about ruining someone elses ride. I'm not grouping you in this category, but still, it's a matter of respect. I'm not saying that you should drive the car like a grandma, but at least don't go over 5000rpms for the sake of the guy that spends 35 grand on a car that shouldn't have ANY hard miles on it. And if you're concerned about the straight line power, as you complained about in the review, haven't you read about all the tuners commenting on how the motor is severly detuned from the factory and that it's making a lot more power mod for mod than the 9? Matter of fact, shiv and many others have said that with the same mods, that the x is just as fast as the 9 even with the added weight, and the handling and everything else, well the x unanimously has the 9 beat. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Makes no difference to me.
I know what the owner's manual says, but then again test driving the car like a granny isn't going to help me make a decision, now is it? Unlike many other drivers, at least I waited until the car was fully up to temp until leaning on it a bit. As far as the dealer is concerned, they know that if I buy another Mitsubishi, Evo or otherwise, that I'll buy it from them. I have a good relationship with my sales rep and I've referred several ppl to them. They also know that I wasn't about to break their brand new ride. I understand the concern with mileage on a new car, but that's a decision that everyone gets to make for themselves. Even a car with only 15 miles on it may have already been used fairly hard...

I can see both sides of this argument, but in the end, before I spend $40k, I had better test to see if I want the car or not.
BTW, this is getting off topic!

I hate to contribute to this off topic threadjack, but you guys should give Ludikraut a break.
One of the big reasons I bought my car at South Coast is that they do not drive the cars.
Local dealers (3 that don't exist anymore) were notorious for beating the crap out of Evos with the salesmen/managers, etc. Chances are Ludikraut's test drive was probably one of the most civil that car will see until someone buys it.
I rode in an 05 MR that had 22 miles on it a few years back, and the salesman drove it off the lot, slipped the clutch at almost 3 grand, redlined first, grinded the crap out of second, then went on and redlined second. I was babying it when I drove it, and he kept telling me to get on it. I told him I have a modified 03 VIII at the time, and don't care about the power, but wanted to see what the Bilsteins and 6 speed were all about.
The Evo is a performance car, and there is no shortage of people who will wait in line to abuse it, ESPECIALLY the salesmen in some cases. Buyer beware.
