Has mitsu stepped up the paint quality on the X?

(Phantom Black GSR for reference)

I have yet to see one in person, but simply looking at the 'Phantom Black' option really gets me wondering if Mitsu has stepped up in regards to the paint quality on the X, in comparison to the VIII and IX.

We all know the VIII and IX had less than favorable paint quality, and I guess it's something that we'll have to see over time (reaction to wear and tear, highway debris, ease of swirl marks, etc) - but from your initial impression (to those that have seen an X in person, or are new owners of one), would you say your opinion of the paint quality on the X be a favorable one?

The door handle grooves at the dealership, where I got mine, had a numerous amount of scratches. Aside from that, I've had mine a few days, and aren't noticing anything. Be careful with rocks though, accidentally kicking one can ding the paint..

EDIT: I have no expertise or oppinion on this. The above was strictly informational. I have never owned, or even stood within 5 feet of an VIII or IX.

My wicked white car seems to have a good amount of orange peel, but I'm not too worried about it.

The paint is very thin on the Evo-10, My WW-X has a Chip on the hood allready from
rocks. I have Been driving around EVO's for 5 years now, Comparing my VIII that has well over 200 rock chip, I can tell you that the paint on the EVO-X is Alot!!! Thinner then VIII

IMO All cars have thin paint these days. Don't believe me, go to other car forums and read about them, they all have the same problems with rock chips and whatnot in the front. It all has to do with the new standards in paint and what they can and cannot use which makes it thinner.

Edit: God, that is one helluva sexy picture though

From what I've seen Mitsu has stepped up the quality of the paint. The metallic's used in the X seem to be far superior than the 8-9.

the paint quality is the same in my opinion. The real problem is the car comes without any wax from the factory.

Race car first... Show car last.

Thats just my take however. I do admit that I don't want a lot of chips on my car but thats why I'm doing 3M film on the nose.

I would ASSUME the paint quality on PB would be better since we have to pay extra for it.

Probably a bad assumption lol

UMMNO IJT HAS TO DO WITH capitalism and greed and them charging us more and more for less and less every year.... They try to find cheaper way to make a cheaper quality product... The only cars with "proper paint jobs" these days are those costing over $90K

paint thickness is about the same on all new cars, .006"-.007" or ~two human hairs thick. I've checked a bunch of newer cars and they're all about the same. I haven't checked any high $ cars, so they may have a little more paint on them than Evos, Civics, Camry's, etc. But if you spend $40k or less on a car this is about what you'll get.

If you read up on paint thickness, this is about what the paint mfgs like PPG recommend so it's not too thin.
