I think I've found the perfect balance.

First, a little background on me. I'm 25 years old, and in about 3 months I'll be a dentist. I LOVE the Evos. I love the IX, and I love the X. That left me with a dilemma as to which to get.

Well, after much consideration, I think I've made my decision. I'll get both.

First, I'll get a X MR (white for sure *drool*). That will be my daily driver. I have a few reasons to justify that:
*I think the styling is more mature, so perhaps more appropriate for a starting dentist.
*For a daily driver, I want a new car, w/ new car warranty.
*I prefer the dual exhaust.
*General consensus seems to suggest the car is overall more refined.
*I live in Vegas......I don't want to deal w/ a conventional manual in traffic all day.

Then, when I save up the money, I'll get a used IX. That will be my car to mod the hell out of, and thrash........basically the "weekend warrior" mobile. The reasons I don't want a IX as my daily driver are basically the opposite of the reasons I want a X as a daily driver:
*Despite the fact that I love the look of the IX, it has that "boy racer" appearance and borders on "ricey" in my opinion. I like the styling for sure, but I'd prefer patients and colleagues see me in something that appears more "mature."
*I'll have to get a used one.
*Not a huge fan of the single exhaust.
*It's a bit more rough around the edges than the X.
*It's standard manual only.....while I think standard manual would be fun at first, it may quickly lose its appeal in this town.

sounds like a cool plan, and if you do get sick of the IX because its MT driving it 2 days a week, you obviously dont love the car that much, lol

I like manual......it's fun.......granted the only manual I've driven is a Yamaha WR250F dirtbike, but it's still a matter of clutch work and shifting. So, if I drive a manual car periodically, I'm sure I'll be fine. It's just the everyday driving in heavy traffic that would get tedious.

I live in the Chicago area and went from a manual to an SMG tranny. I loved the ease of the SMG, but miss the feeling of "control" with the manual. I have since went back tot the X with a manual to have that feeling of control and upgradability. The SMG was nice, but not as controllable as one would imagine. If most of your driving is stop-and-go, the Evo is definitely the wrong car for you.

the Evo X MR with the SST is definitely the right choice for the thread starter. Stop and Go traffic is what the developers partially had in mind

You fail at financial planning. Maybe someday when I'm 50 I'll get a Ferarri. But I'd rather have a car that doesn't break the bank right away. I'd rather drive an Evo and work at having an investment portfolio and retirement fund in the multi-millions than "blow my wad" on an exotic right away, and end up being the dentist that has to work till he's 70 because he didn't plan his future right or spend his money wisely.

Hell, I think buying a daily driver car, and one for fun is pretty extravagant........and I can do it all w/o spending the kind of money a Ferrari costs.

PS- Have you ever seen the typical mileage that owners put on exotics? It's obvious they're not driving them often.

When I leave work during rush hour after a long day, and I'm beat and just want to get home.....having the option to let the car shift for me will be good.

Hopefully by the time the MR comes out, there will be some good and well tested mods (and hopefully the SST trans isn't a total weakling). It doesn't have to be a 500 whp monster or anything......that's what the IX will be for.

^ Agreed

I would pick up the IX first though. Its no longer in production, so the longer you wait the more miles IX's will have on them (on average). You can get an extended warranty on the IX to hold you until you can spring for the X.

I've thought about that......but then, I'm stuck w/ a stick until I can afford the X (and who knows how long that would be if I end up not doing financially as well as expected). The SST was a big selling point for me. Plus, I want my next car to be "new" new. I don't mind having a used car as a second "fun" car.....especially since I'll run it ragged anyway when I do drive it.

I guess now I'm left with the question of, when I buy the X......do I drop a couple grand on mods......or do I immediately start saving for the IX? Such hard decisions!

After all this talk, I'm gonna feel real stupid if I flunk out of school during this last three months.....and end up working at Walmart driving a scooter to work. Now that I think about it, even if I am a "successful" dentist......if you figure my wife's shopping expenses into the equation, I may never be able to afford a new car let alone two.
