Dynoed My X @ MFQ's Dyno Dynamics Heart Break Dyno

Last night Charlie from MFQ Motorsports dynoed my X at their in house Dyno Dynamics 4WD Dyno.

Stock Baseline of the car made 208whp

After a few runs, Charlie decided to install a Manual Boost Controller to hold the boost at redline.

We set up the boost at about 23psi and tapers down to about 17psi by redline.

To our surprise it made 50whp peak horsepower with just a Boost Controller.

After going home and entering the freeway onramp I let the monster loose. You can definelty feel the 50whp increase on the car. The car pulls like a 320whp EVO 8.

The Dyno Dynamics is known throughout the industry as being the "heartbreaker" dyno - because it breaks the heart of every man that thinks he has 500 hp when he really has 350. The Dyno Dynamics reads lower than the Mustang. It reads WAY lower than a Dynojet. It reads WAY lower than a Dynapack (which actually reads too high on tip-in). The closest in numbers (at low HP) is the mustang, but using the above example, the same 300hp car was dyno'd back to back on a Dyno Dynamics 450 LowBoy and a Mustang AWD500E (what some other guys have), and that 300hp rated car consistently read 223 on the Dyno Dynam ics and 249 on the Mustang. One hour apart, exact same car, same town, same altitude, etc.

How do I compare my dyno results to others with similar setups? For EVO owners, there are enough internet resources to compare, but essentially, Dyno Dynamics and Dynapack are the only 'consistent' numbers, and Dynapack reads very high, Dyno Dynamics very low.

How do I compare my pulls to Mustang Dyno, or a Dynojet, or a Dynapack? Every dyno is different. If you want dynojet or mustang-ish #s you have to multiply by 1.18 or so, 1.25+ for DynaPack. But remember, this is just ballpark, as it is not linear.

Multiply 258.8whp X 1.25 and you get 323.5whp Dynojet/Dynapac Numbers. With just an Manual Boost Controller, everything in the car remains stock.

The car with just a MBC is entering EVO8's territory with full bolt on's cams, full exhaust, test pipe. Making almost the same power levels.

First off congrats on the car man. Its really nice...and will prove to be a monster. Second, you have to realize that actual hp numbers dont really mean anything. Its about the change of hp readings from before mods to after. You are better off just learning the car really well, and taking it to the track once or twice, just to get a trap speed, thats the true way of seeing a cars true power. The difference in dynos is hard to compare, and not really worth it.

+1.

And I wouldn't go comparing the feel of the car compared to another car with full bolt-ons just yet. Your car weighs more, so it still wouldn't be as fast as a similarly equipped 8/9 with the same whp.

Thanks guys.

We will be testing it further next week, with an Intake and see how she responds to SAFC tuning.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Since you've already added the boost controller, I would love to see what the intake alone gives you. I'm curious to see if the intake is actually restrictive or if the car is getting it's power by a leaner mixture (this is for intake ONLY).

Keep us up to date and nice car!

I'm sick of seeing these evo x hp wars already. Since there are plenty of different dynos and everyone can get in constant discussions/conflicts on who's read what and how much I'd imagine it would be best to compare numbers on tracks or roll races or whatnot.

Awesome, I'm glad to hear some positive vibes on the new x . Sounds like I'll wait to see if it lives up to the hype.

What is nice to know is that the engine loves to breath and make more power. However, as I am sure most are concerned- will it hold up to the longevity of that power like the 4g63.

Yeah, dynos are a fairly simple way of assigning numbers to cars and hp, but what truly matters is the car's performance on the track. I am very curious to see how the new Xs match up that way.
