Evo X MR HP Tuning Limitations?
There are 2 models of DCT on the Getrag site, one handles more power while the other one handles less. They both could be used in a front engine AWD lay out car. Perhaps the weaker DCT will be used on the ralliart while the stronger one will be used in the evo? This makes most sense to me as the weaker DCT should cost less manufacture than the stronger one.
I am in the market for the X MR. I went to a Mitsu dealer and was informed by the sales guy that the MR is not good for tuning, in terms of added HP. He said that at a training seminar, he was informed that the double clutch transmission was engineered to handle the factory spec power and no more so advised if anyone wished to heavily mod their new evo X, to buy the 5 speed GSR.
I'm sure there are people out there making some good educated assumptions, and who knows.....maybe time will prove that the SST really isn't good for additional power. But that is my point exactly.....I don't think anything can really be said for certain until we give it time and some tuners have a chance to go at the thing and see what it can do.

This is interesting cause i too am interested in the MR. I do want bolt-ons and a tune to yank out 350whp-400whp. But hopefully the SST transmission is not weak. There is a FQ 360 MR version in japan so that prolly is around 280-300whp range.
Now the SST transmission could be weak but why not upgrade the transmission?? I think i saw somewhere an upgraded SST transmission in the Japan Auto Show, hopefully its not priced at like 5k but i think it could be around 1k-1.5k ( just a guess) < this may seems alot but if it can hold more power then maybe the MR potential can increase.
But back on topic!! i hope the SST can handle 350whp and maintain it but thats just a wish lol
. A tune and exhaust would yield 300whp ish on a dynojet< but this is an inference.
BTW off topic 3k MARKUP for a Evo X GSR in staten island, ny so starting price is increased from 33k to 36k here.

WTF does Mitsu make the top of the line car have the most problems with adding power? I had a 9MR and never tracked it due to the tranny may blow out 3rd, now we have this crap? It's like a 997 TT having 14" wheels and 8" rotors. Mitsu is really starting to **** me off with this crap.
My plan of attack is this:
1) Wait for the MR to come out.
2) Wait for tuners to modify it.
3) Wait for people to track their MR's and report back (circuits, not just drags and dodging cones lol).
If the MR can make a reasonable amount of power over stock (320 whp or more on a dynojet) and it holds together with no adverse effects, I'll pull the trigger on one. otherwise, I'll look at other options. i vowed my next car will have some type of sequential gearbox and i can't see being satisfied with a GSR, good as they may be. i drool over the S-AWC but for me personally, one without the SST is incomplete. so...obviously if i get a X this year, it will be at the very end. probably even after that though depending on how tough of a nut it really is to crack without having to go to extremes. till then, I'll just have fun with my VIII. it only has a TBE, EBC, tune, and springs, and it's never felt like it was down on power for anything but drag racing, which i rarely do. so i don't need a monster horsepower X MR...

Actually 400whp would not be a problem then.
Just have to tailor a boost curve that limits max torque in the mid-range, i.e. if the boost holds from 3000rpm to 7000rpm at around 20 psi.
300wtq is about the limit at 80+, which at 6500rpm should be close to 400whp (just a ruough est. off top of my head).
