i'm thinking the same thing. my friend who just came from Singapore told me his Corolla cost him equivalent to almost $60K US dollars. So for an Evo, i could only imagine...

Nice car! PB looks great!

yeah but on average, people make a lot more money there than in us, at least for the most part.

That's not true at all (I'm from Singapore).

Gross National Income per capita (USA) for 2006 : 44,970 USD

Gross National Income per capita (Singapore) for 2006 : 26,320 USD

Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...GNI_per_capita

Evo GSR with 5MT will cost $130 - 140,000 SGD from the main dealer (94 - 101,000 USD)

Evo GSR with SST will cost $150 - 160,000 SGD from the main dealer (108 - 115,000 USD).

Parallel imports are somewhat cheaper, but still very expensive.

And they also levy heavy taxes by engine capacity, and force you to destroy the car in 10 years (if you want to keep the car, you have to pay ridiculous $$ all over again).

Short version : It just sucks to own cars in Singapore.

Even shorter version : Singapore sucks.

Yep. Some ridiculous laws here. And we sort of accepted all this crap (and lack of free speech to boot) because we were supposedly very secure, etc. Now the government here has let an AQ-linked terrorist mastermind escape from "top security" detention, haven't found him yet in our 250-odd square mile land area and they're just laughing stocks.

But we can't laugh too loud, or too openly here, it's still a police state, to all intents and purposes. It's just that they've proven themselves incompetent where it counts.

Reiterating, Singapore sucks.

Well at least when it comes to tax you don't complain

You should move if you think it sucks that badly .. and when you do move and then find out that 50% of your pay goes to paying tax and welfare for A$$holes waiting for handouts, I bet that complaint will be different..

It's also a police state where you can walk at night in a dark alley without fear .. try doing that in LA ..

Tax...interesting point. Did you know that around 20% of our gross monthly pay (before taxes) is compulsorily sequestered by the government into a central fund? This fund is supposed to pay our retirement income, but there are so many rules and obstacles to getting the money back that it's never really yours, you get what I mean? I don't consider any money I have no real control over to be "mine" - hence our low rates of taxation are illusory (when you add that 20% in).

Sure, the US has welfare-state problems, but Singapore has the opposite problem - the government wants to entirely wash its hands of any duty of care to the elderly.

You're right, it is still a pretty safe city, but there are incidents, and they're on the rise.

Anyway, this is getting pretty OT (I guess I bear the blame for that), so maybe we should take this to PMs or start a thread in OT.

Singapore seems like a really interesting place! But it seems like a really strict country. Planning to mod your evo? or lots of laws surrounding that?
