Evo X MR
Evo X MR
I am doing my research on owning an Evo X, right now I own an american car 2002 Grand Prix GTP to be precise. So the Evo X could possibly be my second ever car and an import at that.
Anyhow I figured whats a better place to find out about upcoming MR version then on the forum. Can anyone fill me in on the MR version that will come out or is it too soon to tell?
I have been considering an IX (after taking a ride in my friends IX) or an X, this is not a flame war. I am just a first time buyer and trying to pick the right car for me, I fell in lover after riding in the IX, not even test driving. I liked the raw power, the hard shifts, the feel of being in a go-kart, for some reason it really appealed to me. But what do I know maybe that feeling goes away as quick as it comes after you own an IX. The problem is that I cant get a brand new IX and I dont like the idea of buying a used car.
I alos have the option of just waiting it out and buying the X in 2009 once most of the problems are figured out and aftermarket catches on. Help me decide.

Hey there I'm waiting on the MR as well and hope that the car can be modded becuase I have never owned a AWD car and to find out how it feels to luanch a turbocharged car, currently I own a 2003 mustang cobra, do not get me wrong owning the cobra is a good car and has a little bit of HP but I want a turbo for once to see the differance in the two cars.having a all year round car will, I hope make me more happy then having one that is only seasonal let me know what you guys think.

wanna wave a fan club flag while you're at it?
j/k
You should definitely test drive a X if you can. I haven't done so myself, but from what i understand, it won't disappoint in terms of power. The few problems that I have heard of regarding the X are pretty much being taken care of actively. If you don't want to wait, then don't. You'll most likely be happy with a X purchase now. Just make sure you make a good effort to get a good deal and not be ripped a new one. I'd shoot for no more than 32-33 for the GSR. With the economy as of late, you should be able to find a dealer in need of selling, so good pricing right now shouldn't be out of your reach. I totally agree with you on the whole used car thing. Especially in the world of Evos. It will be hard to find a decent IX that is stock and not beat to ****. Not to mention, cause of their count, the suggested private party price is often ignored for a number a few grand higher. My suggestion... either wait a year for the X or get it now. If you really want the IX ... don't be lazy, search research and haggle the hell out of it. Caveat emptor

Also there is a 30k mileage EVO IX for sale at CBRD Speedfactory for 27k, I dunno much about them or their shop. But 30k miles on an Evo IX I think thats too dangerous to buy for 27k, but like I said I dunno much about Speedfactory maybe they rebuilt the engine? I dont know.

I think I will wait it out, I do like the X..but I want to see how well the new engine will stand up to the aftermarket. I wish I had the money to splurge on an IX, but I feel the X is a more forgiving car and a more of a daily driver than an IX.
I've had both, so maybe I can provide some perspective.
The Evo 8/9 had a very spartan feel to it. Very raw...very "race car" like in terms of daily livability. Comfortable, yet could get down when it needed to. I had mine stripped to the metal from the front seats back as well as a fully gutted trunk and a half roll cage. Drove it daily...loved every minute of it. It was a little loud with everything removed...but livable.
Steering is sharp, engine is strong and proven, and has HUGE aftermarket support. I still consider the CT9A chassis one of my favorite cars and I'm hoping to get another as a dedicated track car.
The Evo X is a bit of the same...just slightly different. You're dealing with a more rigid chassis, a new engine, and a bit more weight. The interior is a bit of a step up in terms of design and the stock seats hold you better. I honestly feel that this car turns a little better thanks to the AYC. Some feel that it doesn't turn as well...but then again a lot of those same people have never driven the car.
Personally, I think the X is a little easier on the eyes and looks more refined. I think in time once the aftermarket catches up, you'll see a lot of the Evo X naysayers making the switch...or keeping their old Evos as track cars and buying an X as a DD. Not saying that the X isn't a capable track machine...it just needs some time.
I was seriously considering going back to an 8/9 from my hasty switch to the 350Z. But the X just fit a little better into my 31 year old lifestyle.
In the end...just choose what fits YOU best. Drive both...spend time with them and consider what you're going to use the car for as well as what your budget will allow.
You won't be dissapointed either way.
