5k miles, the ecu notifies you via multi-function display. Mobil 1 oil is preferred BTW.

Read your owner's manual.

just did and still didn't find it. 5k seems way off for a new car oil change but that is all the i am getting from the manual that first service is at 5k.

i read on a tuner site that mitsubishi says 500 miles but that doesn't make sense either given that the break in period is 600 miles.

Break in is at 600 miles and first oil change is at 5k. Some people are changing before they hit 5k and some are waiting. I would suggest changing it if you drive the car really hard daily. But if you are like me I only get on it once in a while to play around.

At least it isn't like the 03 Evo I had and you had to change it every 3500 miles

I changed mine at 500 originally. Then again at 1,500 and then at 2,500. All with AMSoil 5W-30. My car is solely a track car, so I change it very frequently. Normally, I would change it at 1,000, then 3,000 and then every 3k after that.

That's what I'm doing. Going to get it changed this weekend at 1,000 and then every 3,000. Just want to get all the break-in stuff out of there.

I changed it at 2000 miles. You can go 3k-5k miles but the first time I recommend a 1k-2k earlier change.

yeah 5k seems so long to be leaving all that break in remnants in there. i think i will do it at 1000 and then at 5k and see if i can hang with every 5k after that. changing the oil is so crucial to an engine i am surprised mitsu would suggest such long intervals for a high performance vehicle. honda accord maybe but evo..hmmmmm

^^The German cars oil change intervals are even longer...like 8000-12,000 miles. The advent of sythentic oils have allowed longer oil change intervals. Oil's lubricating qualities last longer than you would think. If you are in doubt, send a sample to Blackstone labs and have them test it out.

so are you suggesting to go by the book or by my gut for the first change?

FOr the first change, I did mine at 300 miles. Although I trust the oils, I want to make sure that there is just oil in there doing the work and not little metal particles making it harder for the oil to do the work. But after the initial oil change, I will probably do it every 3000 miles, and probably even sooner if my driving habits warrant a sooner oil change interval.

I just did the GF's evo x oil change at 850miles with 5w30 mobile 1 and k&n oil filter. By looking at the oil @ 850miles, I would recommend doing it before it hits 1k mark.
