08 EVO or 08 STI Subaru for Daily Driver?

Between these two, which would you take as your daily driver in a major metropolitan city commuting 50 miles a day?

are you looking at the 5 speed GSR or the 6 speed SST MR?

The 6spd of the STi would be perfect for the long drive each day.

if there's a lot of stop & go traffic & you hate having to constantly manually shift, but want to still be able to manually shift once on the open road, I would say the MR

Doesn't really matter. Both cars are rough cars. Both got a bit more toys this time around to stomach long trips. The 5 speed on my X doesn't bother me on the highway at all. Keeps a gas mileage fine if you don't have the foot down and the sound is minimal even the the catback I have.

Evo X would be my nice. My g/f has a modded '07 WRX and the Subarus just aren't my cup of tea. They are still quick and fun to drive, I just really prefer the Mitsus (plus Mitsus are a lot easier to work on).

I'm in a similar situation, except I'll be driving about 20 miles a day and I won't be going on the freeway all that often. I'm getting the EVO X no matter what, cuz for me, I'm factoring in all sorts of things.

I'll be driving it daily but I'll also be pounding it at night on certain roads. I also like the fact that it has S-AWC too. I personally love the styling, especially in Phantom Black.

if you're going to be stuck in traffic a lot, get the MR. But if you like shifting regardless, get the GSR. I don't know much about the '08 Sti but I know I don't like the new style of it (^_^)

Take a look at our comparison article posted on the very front page of the site. The STI is a bit more comfortable in seating and suspension with a bit more utility. The trunk on teh Evo is lacking if that matters. Gas mileage is pretty similar. Navi is better on the evo and I think the stereo may be a bit better too. The MR transmission is by far the best for daily commuting, and the MR trim level is pretty good. MR cost a bit more in starting price, but optioned equally, they are very similar in price.

gsr manual isn't bad for DD on the highway. but if you like traffic with an automatic then consider something that will do the shifting for you.
