Which options for the GSR X are worth it?
I'm planning to buy an X GSR this summer. I'm trying to decide whether not the options for the GSR are worth it for the $ that
charges for it. Or, would I be better off having some or all of these items installed myself afterwards?
Navigation: I've only read good stuff about the navigation system. Supposedly works great & looks great in the dash too.
Is it worth the $1,700-$2,000 you're charged for it? Are there (will there be?) aftermarket in-dash Navi. systems available for the X that are cheaper (in price not quality)?
Aero Kit: I'm really not too fond of the Aero kit available for the X right now. I think the X looks great without it. I'm really interested to see what new lip/body kits come out for the X in the next year as well.
$1,700-$2,000 seems quite expensive as well for this kit when most lip kits go for $600-$1,100. I've also got a good friend who is a body man... So, the Aero kit is not worth it in my opinion, is it worth it in your opinion?
SSS: I've read that the HID lights are not quite as bright as some would like, the Rockford Fosgate sound system is not as loud as some would like & I'm not a spoiler fan (in general) too. If I did happen to go with the SSS package it would be for the lights & sound only, I'd get rid of the spoiler... so, I'm thinking I may not want to go with this option either.
Seems like I could get a better sound system & HID lights for well under $2,000 that perform much better.... but I was hoping to get more opinions on how the HID & sound performs from more people. Was it worth it to you?
Shift Knob/E-Brake: Is this one worth it to you? I've read some stories about the fancy E-Brake handle sliding right off... should i wait?

Personally i loved the Aero kit. I think it makes the car look 10X meaner and saves me from doing anything to the exterior down the road.
I got both aero package and SSS package. The HID's are cool, the large spoiler was a must on an evo, and the sound system sounds pretty good for factory.
It seems you're really not interseted in either, so I'd say screw it and just buy a base GSR.

As a Canadian customer, I was given the option of ... no options.
After driving for a bit and gazing longingly at pictures on the internet, I would kill for the Navi and HIDs.
I could do without the Aero kit, E Brake, Knob, etc.
HIDs, even if not as good as those you would find on a luxury vehicle, would be worth it. And the Navi seems to tie everything together. It also gives you the ability to adjust numerous functions on your vehicle, such as light timing, door opening, etc.
Oh, I almost forgot. The FAST key is just awesome. I wish I could have had that.

I found a GSR with no options in a color I liked (octane blue). I would have liked to have had the stereo upgrade, but not for $2k plus you get the shopping cart handle wing vs. the (imo) more tasteful base gsr spoiler lumped into that package.

Navigation: I think that console with navigation screen looks much better compared to the plain one with ugly radio buttons that are misplaced and horribly designed. Then, addition of the touch down screen has a potential for further enhancements and some custom displays which is something I like. I think that combined control of your aftermarket control unit on the display would be great addition to the car. Then GTR type gauges would be nice addition as well.
On the other hand, one can save $2k and get the aftermarket screen in there that would look pretty much the same as the OEM, but equip it with the feature you like! This might be a great idea for the side business!!
Aero kit: this is a big rip off in my book!! The car already comes with a decent size front lip and one from the package is just too big in my eyes. I am probably used to seeing smaller things
Then the part under the door is just nuisance and it can get damaged pretty easy if you or someone else just step on it.
Having an extra big spoiler in the back is also individual choice and from my end smaller one looks just fine! I am sure that lot of people will be swapping those anyway so later change is always an option if you ended up caring for it too much!
Overall, I think there are much better ways to spend $2k.
SSS: The OP already made a good point for not going after this option, so there is hardly anything one can add to that. You can get those things much better and for less money if you do it elsewhere.
Brake handle is not worth mentioning from where I stand!

Honest to god, the wheel locks are the only option I considered worth getting and I figured I could manage that myself. If I want a stereo I can do a lot better than the factory upgrade for the same money or less. The aero kit I like, wouldn't mind having it, but not for that kind of money, it's not like other cars where the kit makes the car and it looks bland without it. Navigation I just don't care about. I usually know how to get where I'm going and I don't plan on any long road trips in this car. I just can't see optioning this car up to $40K when I was able to spend $8K less and not feel like I'm missing out on anything. Honestly, HID's are the only thing I would have liked to have but I figure down the road options will be available for a lot less than what I would have paid for an OEM setup.
options are all about personal preference. that's why they're called options. all of the options are good options for the evo, unlike some other cars where options seem cool but are junk. you just have to figure out if each option is worth the money to YOU. personally the one point i would make is that factory HID's are 100% better then aftermarket. I have had after market and yes they are great, but there is something to be said for factory housings with cutoff lines and a leveling adjustment. i do NOT want the RF stereo, but i am going to HAVE to take it b/c i want the fast key, hids and spoiler. :/
i am from canada as well. the SSS package is well worth it. I am looking into doing most of the conversions myself and it cost a lot more. If you want only certain thinga about the package then maybe do the items single. But for 2g you can always remove the sub and amp if you don't want them.
I have tested a bunch of touch screen navis and love the mitsu one the best. You don't have to be an expert to use it as well. If you get the base model and wanted to get the sound package after (ie RF amp) you will have to purchase a new wireing harness that goes from the drivers front kick panel to all the way in the rear of the car. It was gonna cost me $1400 just for the harness, or you can splice and build your own.
Said all that just to say SSS package would be well worth the money.

I got all of them, and I wasnt sure about the body kit but it looks awsome on my GG X. I dont think I left a check box unchecked. The Nav system is awsome though. Radio isnt loud enough even with ss package though
