AWD Noob Question

So I am a noob to AWD. what is the story with coasting in neutral in an awd car? I remember reading something about it in the past about it being detrimental to the drivetrain. the manual doesn't really get into it. it is nearly impossible to not coast in neutral a little in traffic with a manual.

i need to be schooled.

didn't think so. i didn't understand how it could do anything unless i were bumping it into 3 rd gear at like 80 mph. i tried researching it but found nothing substantial.

I had my STI for 3 years before I traded it for the X. I coasted and downshifted to many, many stoplights and never had a single problem with anything mechanical on the car. Then again it was a Subaru. lol

Don't think its an issue when coasting, just don't tow it long distances with any wheels touching the ground.

The owner's manual talks about coasting in neutral. It's perfectly fine for the car. Surprisingly, it is illegal in some states to coast in neutral. I still can't figure this one out.

its most likely a safety issue, because when you are in neutral, and if the engine stops, you will loose the power steering and after a period of time the breaks and steering will be amazingly heavy to operate.

Like other people have said, nothing bad will happen, I don't see why you thought otherwise. Anyway, while it's not detrimental, I personally almost never coast in neutral unless I'm at such a low speed that the car would come close to stalling in second gear (as I personally don't like staying in first gear during slow traffic if it's just crawling forward, bumper-to-bumper).
