shipping an X?
I bought my X at South Coast and had it delivered to Ohio. Sam recommended DAS, but I looked at some reviews online and they were absolutely horrible. Your car gets loaded and unloaded many times as it makes its way through the various depots, leaving lots of room for error. It made me nervous, as did them requiring an additional price for insurance that still had a deductible. Even their "enclosed carriers" are just the open transports with canvas strapped to the sides. Not ideal.
I ended up using InterCity Lines after a number of hearty recommendations. They didn't disappoint, either. My car was loaded onto a fully enclosed truck using a flat lift, like you typically see on big-name race trailers. Then they completely wrapped the entire car in protective foam, and finally covered it in plastic to protect it from any liquids from the cars above. They have a no-additional-charge 100% coverage insurance policy, and door to door service. The driver called me himself every couple states to keep me up to date on progress and delivery time, and gave me his phone number in case I needed to talk to him.
As you'd expect, it cost significantly more. About $1600 from South Coast to my door in Ohio. It was worth it to me, knowing the car would arrive in the exact same condition it left in. I would have been heartbroken if the exact car I wanted, completely unobtainable in Ohio, was damaged in transit. InterCity dropped it off in my driveway with 8 miles on it. The driver noted it was the first time in months that he wasn't able to find even a single blemish at pickup to put on his report. My car rode in style with hot rods, two M3s, a Porsche, and a very out of place non-running truck (that belonged to one of the hot rod's owners for future fixing-up), among others.
I would heartily recommend them if you're willing to spend a bit more to know that your car's being cared for, or if open transport in general makes you weary. Adding in all the DAS options to make it match InterCity's service as closely as possible found that only a few hundred dollars separated the two. I went back and forth, but decided I didn't want to worry about it the whole trip. The official auto shipper of eBay, or Barrett Jackson? I chose the latter
I have pictures of the unloading too, if anyone is interested.

I paid $30,589, no California taxes, plus roughly $87 in dealer fees and some Cali environmental tax for a grand total of $30,676.75 with no other fees or anything from South Coast.
I then paid $775 to get it to NC from Cali.
I then paid 3% NC highway use tax since NC doesn't charge sales tax on new vehicle purchases, which was roughly $918.
Sam delivered the car to the shipping terminal for free, or maybe it cost me like 14 miles on the odometer or something, but that's irrelevant, I didn't/don't really care.
Grand total;
$30677
+ $775
+ $918
-----------
$32,370
The local dealers were not dealing on price at all two months ago when I bought it, they were all wanting full retail or more. Buying from them would have been approximately:
$34000+$595 = price + Mitsu delivery fee
$1038 = 3% state highway tax
$299 = Misc dealer BS fees for paperwork, etc
Total = $35,932
Total savings of approximately $3562, so normally I just tell people I saved a little more than 10% by buying in California, including all the fees to ship it cross country. If the local dealers were even remotely interested in selling an EvoX, I would have bought it from them. I took my car in for the reflash at that same dealer a couple weeks ago, and it looked to me like they still had the same cars sitting on the lot that were there two months ago, but they had an extra one that arrived into inventory as well.
And the local dealers didn't have the color I wanted, nor were they willing to try to trade inventory at a different dealer for the color I wanted. At the time I was buying, Sam (or somebody else) had posted South Coast having something like 200 EvoX's in stock, and he had exactly what I wanted, no jerking around or anything.
Several people have told me they made up for the low price by gouging me on interest rates and what not, but that's not possible, because when I bought the car I withdrew $34k out of my bank account and paid cash for everthing.
evostang,
i think thats why a lot of people "question" your purchase because you dont incorporate other costs associated with the purchase.
my assumption was stil not comletely wrong then cuz you still didnt pay $30,589, you paid $ 32,370 so thats the cost of the car. i would have likely believed and not assumed if you had said "i paid $32,370"
just like in my previous post, if thats the savings you will get $3562, thats a no brainer at all, just like you did you made an excellent decision by going out of state.
kudos to you for paying cash...

I gave the price I paid plus the shipping cost. Those are the only costs comparable to what the other poster who asked what they were selling for in Cali would end up paying. I can't account for the sales tax anyone else would pay, so there is no point in me telling the tax I paid. Either eay, it doesn't really make a difference, because anyone buying a car is going to end up paying sales tax in thier own state, which requires them to put in a little thought during thier purchase. I did incorporate all the costs which are relevant in my original post, although you can argue I did forget the $87 in fees, but if $87 kills a sale, well, not sure why someone would be buying a $30k car in that case.
Got some quotes on shipping from Cali to NY

Estimated time is 14 days from coast to coast
These are just quotes so I dont know if the dealership works any deals with these companies or if they have any specials
DAS: $1,015
Intercity Lines: $1,852

Does south coast work with DAS or anything for a discount? Anything out there cheaper?
It would be 1000$ from Cali to NEW JERSEY (I live in new york) I'd then have to drive 80 miles to pick up the car from NJ... kind of lame. This is not any normal 80 miles as anyone from tri-state area knows as well.

For reference, I booked on March 21st (A Friday). The car was supposed to be picked up March 24th (Monday), but South Coast screwed up and my car wasn't ready. The car was picked up the next day, March 25th. It arrived in Ohio 9 days later, April 3rd. My car was the first pickup, and the truck was full upon arrival, so pickups certainly delayed things. Total time from scheduling until delivery was 14 days.
Another option that got great reviews was FedEx Passport. Yes, you can even FedEx your car. My quote was higher than Intercity's, though, so I didn't go with them.
I've been getting PMs like crazy for pictures, so I'll post some here so I'm not answering dozens of PMs.
Here's the car on the truck:
