False MPG reading after CAi install.

Is any one else getting this? after replacing my filter with an aftermarket one, my MPG seems outa whack. Im calculating my MPG just like everybody else, resetting at the pump, and seeing how far i can go on a full tank. right now it seems that my gas meter is half way and i have 90miles to go before next fill up(saids reading) with 146 already driven miles on this pump. i know its not accurate but according to that ill get almost 300miles on one tank?!?! before the cai i can barely get 200miles on a full tank, it goes down a notch every time i drive it

I have made a cai and my mpg seemed to go up 1mpg on average if that. sounds like you have another problem.

check over your installation making sure everything is installed properly.

Check your install is the first step, make sure everything is hooked up right.

Second, put the led foot away and start driving like a GMA!

You should brush up on the "maths"

146+90 = 236 I don't think I'd call that "almost 300". I usually get around that many miles out of a tank, so I don't think this is out of the ordinary.

yeah somethin like that. i wasnt going by the 90miles to go meter. i was saying if its on the half way mark 146+146=close to 300 giver or take. i dont trust that thing anyways. heck if i can get 236 per tank thats awesome! but yeah the cai actually did somethin.

with just average driving you should easily get 230 miles on a tankful. i do this every 2 weeks city only and I am not driving like Gma but i dont race light to light either. did 1/2 tank on the highway and 1/2 in the city and the reading was 282 near empty.

Gotcha. Maybe you never noticed before, but the kind of gas gauge used on almost all modern cars reads like like that. It stays up in the "mostly full" range a lot longer than the "mostly empty" range. Consequently, by the time the gauge reads half full, you've already traveled well over half the miles the tank will provide.

You can read more about why here if you're interested:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-gauge1.htm

The computer is smarter than the gas gauge, and was providing you with a more accurate distance till empty measurement (90 miles is more realistic than another 146 miles).
