Evo X Maintenance Costs...
Evo X Maintenance Costs...
Hey guys, I am about to pony up for a new PB GSR SSS/Navi/Aero and I was wondering what u guys pay for maintenance so far? I saw the oil changes [$50 and up] and the 15/30/60K service intervals were super steep [close to $500 for them each]. I tried to see if the dealership I am buying from has any kind of Extended warranty or Maintenance plans I could roll into the deal to lessen the hit I will take later on but the finance guy said that they don't have those available for the Evo. I am coming from a 1998 Civic Hatch that is like super cheap and easy to maintain and gets 40mpg. I just don't know if it would be worth it to own a niche car that just eats a whole in your pocket all the time.. even though I love the Evo very badly lol.
Try doing oil changes yourself. I have personally never done one but after watching numerous how-to videos it seems very easy. I plan on changing the oil myself on this car for 2 reasons. 1 - cause I dont trust anyone touching my car and want to do as much as I can on my own. 2 - it will save me lots of money. I have heard up to $120 for an oil change in some places. They better come with a happy ending for that price. I think just the oil and filter run around $20 at most. So learning how to change it yourself can really save you a lot.
This car is a beauty and think its worth the premium and higher maintence costs compared to a civic. Of course its not as practical financial wise but then again you only live once. Why be practical?

So I just added the filter and 7 quarts real quick to get an idea. Not sure if this is exactly what you need. Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong. Total comes to $55. Just a lil more then the $20 I thought :-P

A friend told me thats what he pays for oil changes and he drives a fairly new eclipse. But then again hes a guy driving an eclipse and not smart when it comes to cars so that might be the reason.

oil changes are really easy. take all of 10 min. and the cost of the oil change depends on what kind of oil you want to use. i know royal purple is 7.85 a qt in jersey. breaks are easy to do. you shouldnt have to change the rotars if you change the pads when needed. my ranger has over 170k miles and still has original rotars and they are in great condition and have never been cut. i dont know what would need to be done in the major intervals but chances are you can do them yourself and it well be fairly cheap. i maintain all my vehicals myself and never had a problem do to lack of upkeep. get the book for the car and start to read if you want to safe money.
I paid $90 at the Glendale Mitsubishi for my first oil change...and I brought in my own oil...what a frikkin' rip.
Second change I went to SCM, who did it for free, but should have been $50-$60.
I have my 15k mile service coming up, not sure how much it's gonna be, but I'm sure it's gonna hurt my wallet.

Oil change should be done every 3k. Look for deals at Autozone, Walmart, and Advanced. Mobil 1 will end up only costing about $27 and that includes a filter.
Premium gas can get a bit pricey if you're coming from a 40mpg civic running 87 octane.
Pads aren't that great for now but some aftermarket companies are making some great pads for half the cost of OEM pads.
It's an expensive car to begin with and expensive to maintain but I think it's worth it and so will most people on the EvoM X forum, which is why we bought them.
