Consumer Reports - Sporty Cars

The X came in 4th:

BMW 135i
Subaru WRX STi
VW R32
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
Subaru WRX
Chevy Cobalt SS
Nissan Sentra SE-R
Dodge Calibur SRT-4

I expected some other cars up there (Mazdaspeed3 for one), but it looks like they just took a set of sporty cars and ranked them, rather than trying to find the best sporty cars.

I don't have a subscription, but CR usually puts high emphasis on usability. It looks like the Evo got dinged for its seats and stiff ride. Still, interesting read.

Maybe this is one case where the MR would have succeeded, w/the softer ride & all.

What's the point of a sporty car if the suspension is going to be soft?

Evo will always be number #1 in my book. I don't give a f*ck what some pencil pushing soft assed desk jockey says.

I don't think the sti deserved to be in second place, I actually test drove one before i bought my evo, and the ride quality is horrible on that car. Don't get me wrong, it's fast and all, but that car just isn't for me. I Think the evo should of got 1st or second.

the VW - BMW is explain this rank about being sporty...
Th STI is arguable but hey different taste its oke.
What is the sporty car anyway?
unbelievable how this people dreams things up...

next time they will come forward with the "most off roady SUV"
Hilarius...
about the X"
" With quick acceleration and impressive handling, it is a lot of fun in the right conditions. "

Yeah right ... the 135 is the number one so certainly is the ultimate doesn't matter condition sport car...
What a load of crap.
not to mention they tested them in wet too.. but seems after you read this the BMW is the best even in the rain.. At least that is what you pick up. The STI braking is worst then the EVo they say and if i'm righ all test say the STI is brakes better then a X.. So
i want to know where this guy got the money for this test. Since its a load of BS.

I don't but when they feed you and others with false facts, and put it out as a valuable information....
I know the media is a biggest liar ... but still they can surprise me...

this might shed some light. not to mention that they list the 135i as costing $37k and the GSR as costing $38k... (Safety info was missing for the 1 series, evo got all excellents and very goods)

they also report a quarter mile speed of 97.3mph, as opposed to 104.4mph for the 135i.

Although, the more I think about it the more I take it as a compliment that the Evo is even decently high on that list. CR is a bunch of old farts who value things like comfort and cost more then anything. Although the link to that article on the front page of CR is posted with a picture of a RR X and so they at least are giving it the nod for being the most attractive car.

the mazdaspeed 3 is an all around better looking and performing car than all of these. in fact, as sports cars i don't even think they should have been mentioned.

Subaru WRX
Chevy Cobalt SS
Nissan Sentra SE-R
Dodge Calibur SRT-4

and if they are just doing a subjective write up on sport cars and factoring in looks then where is the G37 and 350Z and R35 GTR? this was a crappy write up imo.

BMW used to design nice looking cars - the 135i looks hideous.
