Question about Leasing
Question about Leasing
Hi, i am looking to Lease Evo X GSR. I have couple of questions i really want to make my mind clear from.
1) Can i Mod a Leased Car
2) I live in NY. I searched my *** off for some good tuner shops here but cant find any. I need to Tune it to pull on the new e92 M3 since my friend has it and i dont wanna lose
3) Any one of you guys who live in NY, How is the insurance company treating you and are you comfortable with driving a stick in traffic? (Since its going to be my first stick shift)
4) How big of a chance is to have a problem in the GSR if reflash it or tune it for more power since i know Mitsu wont cover for **** once i void the warranty.
5) I heard how harsh the suspension treats on on daily driving for Evo IX. Do you think X will be easier to drive as a daily driver?

1) No
2) You are leasing a car to race with a E92???WTF??
3) You are leasing a manual even tho you never drove one before???WTF
4) Again with the Fixing up a car that isnt yours.
5) Why does it matter, you cant drive a manual anyway.
Now I have a question for you:
How old are you?

1. Can you? Yes. Should you? likely no
2. You'll be able to beat him stock if he's a crappy driver and there are turns. Straight away you have a HUGE disadvantage and you'll need more than a tune.
3. insurance is a raping in NY/NJ on any car. This is NOT the car you want to learn to drive stick with since the clutch is made of marshmallow fluff.
4. You're going to have between a 0 and 100% chance of a problem requiring dealer intervention. Plan accordingly.
5. The X is a fine daily driver in stock form. If you stiffen the suspension, it becomes less so unless you're hard core.

Anyways, One thing for sure that i will be financing it.
i know how to drive a stick so thats not a problem.
Can you shed some light on the issues the X can have if modded. Engine/transmission wise? Since i will be voiding warranty, i dont wanna put myself in big mess. That is one reason i am not touching 335i.
And i guess ill just call some insurance companies for a quote.

Okay so dont get so angry lostkhan, because whatever red posted is somewhat true.
If somehow mitsu finds out there's modding done, its game over with warranty (they have been known to take vins at Autoxs). Remember, this is MITSUBISHI not other nice companies like VW, or Mazda (who appreciate you tracking their cars), etc...
There is a difference between being able to drive stick, and driving it WELL. AWD cars are a bit different when it comes to driving stick, and trust that other guy when he says the clutches are made of marshmallow fluff. I changed my clutch at 13k and that was probably like 4 2-step launches and one autox. Bummer. Learn to rev match, etc, or you will have another 1.3k investment (YAY)
Sure they can come off like jerks, but some of the stuff is true.

The only pertinent info regarding modding a lease is, you simply need to turn it back in, in the same condition as it was when you took it. If you're gonna mod it, don't do anything you can't reverse.
As far as the waranty is concerned, you're no different than anyone else who owns an Evo. You run the risk of not having coverage if Mistubishi sees your mods. If you can handle that, then mod it. If you can't, don't. As I wrote, you're not the first to have to make that decision, and you won't be the last. Run a search, and you'll find a bunch of threads from people asking the same thing.

Save all the stock parts you take off then put them back on when you trade it in. I leased a Honda S2000 and put a few bolt ons on it. I just put the stock parts back on the day before I traded in for my EVO X.
As for the furture of your EVO X (if you get one), just take all your mods off and replace them with your stock ones when you return it. As for modded reflashes to your computer of your EVO X, I wouldn't even worry about that. When you trade it in, they probably won't even check that if they see that you have no go-fast goodies on your car, (because you replaced the mods with the stock parts the night before you'll trade it in).
In the end, your best bet is to buy the car, not lease. You won't have to worry about anything cause its your car.
When I was leasing the Honda S2000, I was always worried about mileage. I would ride with rides for fear of eventually going over my allowed mileage. I also worried about keepin the car dent free (door dings, etc..), becuase you basically have to keep the car in tip-top shape for when you return it. It just a pain the ars to worry about those things, never really could enjoy the time I had with the car.

1) Yes. Period.
2) M3 will still take you down. Especially if "your friend" has the DCT.
3) You will hate it if this is your first stick car and not use to it. Also get ready to dish out cash for the clutch your gunna fry. And first stick car? Again don't plan on beating that M3, unless he sucks at life.
4)Go the chip route from TTP.
5) I think the X rides fairly well for what it is. No problem being a daily

as far as modding goes and this being your first turbo, i would consider learning about turbo engines and how to drive them and deciding where to go from there. this is my second turbo and they're all very different. learn to drive it then consider mods.
when i first got my x, tuners would ask me where i wanted my 2 step set at. i couldn't answer that question. i thought it was fine where it was. now i feel differently. give it time and enjoy it.

Eck. Ignore everyone who is saying you'll hate it if it's your first stick. I had maybe 2-3hours driving stick before I bought my GSR. I just practiced starts forever in a parking lot and did some research as to proper driving techniques.
I absolutly love driving the stick. And I have over 11k miles with no sign of slippage even though I've 2 step launched it probably 9 or 10 times and taken it to the track several times.
In my honest opinion all these people destroying their clutches probably never learned to drive stick properly and just carried over bad habbits. They probably slip the clutch way more then necessary and give it way to much gas when starting. If you do the research and learn it properly then you'll have no problem.
this car is a blast to drive stick on and is definetly no harder to learn then any other car. So ignore those comments. I've done it personally and have had 0 problems.
As far as modding a leased car. I don't know what the rules are on that. However I would have a hard time justifying dumping cash into a car that I wasn't going to own in 2-3 years. Thats just my opinion. the car is very fast stock and is very fun stock. Unless your plan is to buy the car after the lease is up then I'm confused as to why you would just toss the cash away like that.

For the hatters out there flaming the guy for wanting to mod a leased car.
If you don’t pay cash for the car then technically it’s not yours! It’s the lenders in which you have your financing through regardless of lease or purchase! So the point of “it’s not yours” is absolutely ridiculous. I know there are a few out there who have paid cash for their X's but my guess is not many and there are other financial decisions to weigh before just dropping $33k in cash on a car but that’s a whole other story.
Another item to think of, when you have a leased car and understand the negotiating process of the lease then most would say you should never just give the keys back to the dealer. For the ones who put money down (which is not a good idea) that is lost when you just hand the keys back. I would suggest selling the car yourself, trading it in prior to the lease expiring or just buy it our right at the end of the lease. These are only good points if in fact the buyout is reasonable!! I know a few people who have buyouts on their Evo X for $18,000 after a 36 month lease. One would think that if you could buy and 2005/2006 (3 year old Evo) for $18,000 then that’s a good buy! Make sure you know how the lease works and what the buyout is at the end of the term and then it’s your call on whether or not you think it’s a good buy. Never just give the keys back to the deal unless of course you absolutely have to but just remember there will always be options and negotiations.

The reason i am leasing is the payment will be low and once i see i have put enough money in the car, ill buy it. i was thinking i would be able to pull on the M3 with little mods since ive been hearing this car can respond really well to little mods.
ok KID take your bull**** on another thread.
and if you have any info You can Mod the lease car if you can put everything BACK on stock and Some of the Manufacturers dont say anything. My co-worker has a modded R32 LEASED and The Dealer Offered him some After Market parts before he left.
DID your MOM told you that i cant Drive STICK?? Infact i drive stick my brother's stick GT who lives in MD almost every 2 months.
YOU Always have an Open deal to Buy the Car you lease at the end of the Lease KID.
Now since you dont have any info about this world? How Old are you?
I have a tip for you, When a newbie comes to forum, Try treating the person nicer, they only come to seek some advice from the people who have the cars. Never thought of buying an evo before because i think it was just too ricy. X's shape appeals to me thats why i am trading the A4 for this and not getting the 335i since there r too many e90/e92 on the road.
