Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR by AMS Performance

We here at C/D headquarters are big fans of the tenth-generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The Evo beat out the Volkswagen R32 and Subaru WRX STI in a comparison test, while the go-fast MR model scorched a wicked time at our latest Lightning Lap showdown.
But for tuners, fast is never fast enough. That’s why AMS Performance saw fit to upgrade a 2008 Evolution GSR for this year’s SEMA show. Chicago-based AMS claims 460 horsepower at the wheels, and roughly 560 at the crankshaft. Compare that with the stock car, which makes just 291 ponies at the crank.....

Awesome! BTW, have you guys considered painting the carbon fiber to blend with the rest of the car? I like the weight reduction of carbon fiber as much as the next guy, and although I like accent pieces to be in raw form (like a front lip or deck lid spoiler), whole body panels just don't look good IMO. It looks too much like ricers that roll around in civics with fart cans and primer covered body panels because they can't afford to get them painted. Again, badass car and no offense intended. BTW, what's with the rear diff? Cusco? Did that get rid of the AYC? Was it really necessary? On a side note, it's great to see you guys showing the world how great the X really is. Stuff like this shuts the haters up. Anyway, good luck at the "baddest evo competition." You guys already won the USCC, so go rack up another win for us X guys!

Thank you
Rich

Hey Bruce,
I think they mentioned in another thread that they lost the AYC. let me take a second and see if I can track it down for you...
John
edit: heres the quote: "We just put in a Cusco 1.5 way rear diff in our new X and I'll be testing today at Autobahn to see how it works. I should see a difference right away. It does eliminate the AYC, which BTW is pretty complex. Ivan took it all apart and we inspected the guts. It's basically two clutch packs that are independently hydraulically actuated going through an open diff. The interesting thing is that each clutch pack can apply a speed differential to each whee, meaning it can divert torque to the outside wheel for example, helping to turn the car. The fluid that came out of our unit smelled really burnt and I think we're just overcoming the torque capacity with more power, stickier tires, better suspension, ect.
The trick would be to have a heavy duty AYC unit that can handle the power and that you can electronically adjust/control (like an ACD controller). For now though I think we'll be better off with a mechanical diff like the one offered from Cusco."

Very cool and true! Huge fan of AMS.

Looks great. Color's are a little bright but thats ok. I thought your Evo was all about weight reduction? I still see the rear headrests in! You don't need those for sure.
