Holiday Driving
Holiday Driving
With all these threads about winter/snow driving, I thought I'd share an observation I make every year.
Is it me or do people drive absolutely insanely right around xmas and nye? I am not talking about the malls but just on your regular commute. I always get a sense of extreme uneasiness on the roads because people drive way more aggressively, much faster, talk on the phones more (if that is even possible), and change/weave through the lanes trying to soak up that next 15 feet of space to create an even more dangerous scenario.
I believe it has to do with 1) people are a$$holes in general, 2) there are people trekking out on roads that they aren't familiar with, and 3) just a general increase in anxiety and the need to be in a big friggin hurry.
Don't get me wrong. Driving is normally very bad but this time of year it is horrible.
Be safe out there.
Anyone share my experience?

I agree. It seems like everyone is in a panic around this time of year. With all the last minute shoppers on the road it seems more like a mass exodus from some kind of biblical doom rather than merely getting gifts for loved ones. Add to this a foot or two of snow, like the Northeast has gotten, and it makes it ten times worse. People are slipping and sliding all over the place and parking lots have gotten smaller due to huge mounds of snow taking up valuable real-estate. Definately not a soothing experience to be on the road.
I'm not sure about the rest of you but us New Yorkers aren't exactly the nicest people on the planet and the holidays seem to bring out the worst in people whether it's road raging or fighting over the last Wii. Well I'm off to the gym now to do some middle finger exercises as I'm sure i'll be needing the extra strength in that digit over the next few days.
Happy Festivus.

I agree too. People are bad enough drivers as is, but even more so on slick roads
I hate when people cut out in front of me on icy roads... very bad decision on their part
