Took my new X home and....
^No, I'm waiting until I get the dp, fmic, and piping before I get tuned. Every friday and sunday I drive 210mi, and have checked the mpg average quite a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
For anyone who doesn't know if you want the ecu to recalc the mpg, hold down the button for a few secs when mpg is displayed. It will go --- for a bit and then display average.

If you go by the average MPG calculation the car gives you it might interest you that it isn't an average for the whole tank. The default operation is that after about 3 hours of the car being off, the average will reset. So if you drive, then stop for a bit, then continue the average will still be including your first part of the trip. You can manually reset the average calculation so it starts over like boostin20 described. It will then start calculation from that point. The manual describes how to set it to manual only, where it only resets the average when you manually do it. So when you are calculating MPG over a whole tank you will be best off doing the calculation manually.
