What do you guys do when the warranty goes bye bye?
Since most of you have mods/tunes...what do you do when something goes wrong with the car? I really want a tune and some bolt ons but am afraid of voiding my warranty. Are there any mods that won't void the warranty? Do tuning shops sort of take over for the dealer (not for free I'm sure)?
You've gotta pay to play. It also depends on your dealer. Some will void your warranty for having an air freshener. Some are fine with bolt ons unless it's obvious they caused something to fail. As for the tuning shops...they'll likely only cover whatever warranty they have on the parts they sold you (and those warranties typically aren't very long). If your engine blows up from a tune, good luck trying to get them to pay for it. Like I said, you gotta pay to play.
you can take off all the mods and hope they don't notice. i guess it depends on how modded the car is, since you're in LA you can take it to SCM, they are fairly mod friendly. also they have to prove that the specific mod did infact cause the part to break, etc. but then again people don't buy evo's for the warranty, as far as i know my warranty was voided the minute i drove it off the lot lol. . . .
where did you buy your car from?I got my car from south coast mitsubishi and they are mod friendly to a certain degree. If you got yours there you should ask Sam at south coast mitsubishi and tell him what you want on your car and he'll let you know what will void your warranty and what won't.
You can also do what you want to it and if anything happens, just slap the stock parts back on and take it back to the dealership. As far as a tune I know there is shops like RRE who will do your tune and when you need to go back to stock they will reflash your ecu back to stock for free.

as mentioned earlier mod away and forget about the warranty or do something that is easily covered up. get the cobb accessport and see what power you can make with just a tune and stock parts. you can flash back to stock relatively easily and quickly and doesn't take a mechanical engineer to do it.

I also know people who took the car straight from the dealer to a tuner shop, not even stopping off at home first.
Once ECUflash is working for the X, you can buy the cable and swap tunes back to stock for warranty work. Just a tune may hold off the mod gremlins for a while
They voided my warranty after the first mod. They wouldn't warranty my brake calipers paint broblems with only 10000 miles on the car.
Then the dealer closed and went under finally.
The dealer has to prove that it was your mod that caused the issue before they can void your warranty. Easier said than done with some of the dealerships around though. Try to find a mod friendly dealership in your area and a form a relationship with them.
I have seen them do it.

OP: I agree with what's been said thus far, "You have to pay to play" pure and simple.
