Coming from an S2000's really intense and sharp cut off, the Evo X's HIDs is nothing special. I will probably install some HID fogs and call it a day. Nothing you can do about it unless you change out the projector. Ballast or bulb change will do nothing.

Factory original D2S bulbs are about 4100K to 4300K depending on brand and color shift up to 4800-5000K after 50 to 100 hours of operation. There are only 3 makers of quality D2S bulbs as used in the X, Philips, Osram / Sylvania (stock) and GE. All of them provide similar quality bulbs. D2C or other Asian made D2S style bulbs are junk.

GE offers a 5100K bulb color and Philips a 5,000K bulb (Philips Crystal Vision), Osram once made a 5400K bulb but I believe that was removed from production a few years ago.

These 5,000K to 5400K bulbs are the highest DOT legal color temps than can be installed in USA cars. The DOT illegal 6000K Philips Ultinon loose 20% of the lumens output, higher colors loose even more light, lumens output. 95% of all cars, domestic and import with factory HID come ONLY with 4100-4200K bulbs, mostly Osram or Philips.

The stock bulbs will color shift to about 4800-5000K after you use them for about 100 hours so why pay a premium for the ~5000K types.
I completly agree, I am educated when it comes to HID's. I don't want a 5000k+ bulb. I haven't looked to much into it yet since I can't drive my car, But I have always heard Philips are the best way to go and I'm hoping/assuming they make a 4300-4500k bulb. I want max lumens out of my factory lights.

When I first turn them on there bright. After 5 mins there not as bright and could be better. When I'm driving down a dark street I feel like it isn't giving me enough night time vision. My Evo VIII was all stock and those lights were a lot brighter.

Don't get me wrong, HID's are HID's, but I still would like to have as much lumens on the ground as I can.

I'm not gonna get into temps or cutoff patterns.

My main problem with the OEM HID's are that once I switch them to brights, alot of light appears to be wasted looking at the top half of tree's.

I am not bird hunting, and last I checked, deer do not climb trees. Why the hell do the brights point so high up?

And before anyone says anything, yes they are aimed correctly and their doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the brights aim.

I just wanted to point out these two threads which explain why your light is "dim" compared to others.

The evo 10 uses the e55 projector. You can easily see the lack of width compared to the other projectors.

Comparison of bixenon projectors.

Compared to single xenon projectors.

http://hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopi...er=asc&start=0

I'm not sure if the evo 10 projectors turn with the steering wheel, but having personally used evo 8 projectors for my headlights, the evo 10 projectors are definitely a downgrade in terms of performance.

They would have been better off sticking with a single xenon projector, and using a pencil high beam.

Seem's pretty bright to me. 6700 Philips Ultinon D2S bulbs $190 for a pair. 2500k PIAA Plasma Ion Fog Bulbs $50 for a pair. Stock SSS packaged Evo X priceless.

The stock HID are very good. Also you're just used to them. When i first bought the Evo i thought i could see Jesus at night time compared to my old STi.

Stock hid 4300k are awful yellow white temp that blends into the pavement color of the road, 6000k its much brighter then oem and the white is much more visiable on the road at night.

Wrong. 3000k is technically the most visible to human eyes. As you go up 6-12k, the bluer and the less visible the light will be and more useless. 4300 to 5000 will give you the best visiblity.

sorry, didn't read every post... but to the op--i agree, the lights on the evo SUCK. the stock lights on my s2000 seem almost 2x as bright. and they are definitely stock--i went through 2 sets of oem lights, and they're both the same intensity. when i first turned on the lights on the evo i was very dissappointed. i dunno, maybe new laws restricted how bright those lights can be.

Apparently that's lost on a lot of people with this addiction of turning your car into a rolling light show.

I'm another owner dissapointed with the HID's on my X. The high beams are great, but I'll take my IX GSR halogen low beams any day. Mitsu seems to use really crappy projectors.

The S2k lights are some of the best ever, I loved driving with those.

yeah, i think i speak for kracka here too.... you gotta try the lights on a s2000--you have no idea what you're missing. the lights on the evo might as well be a battery powered flashlight compared to those.
