I've never seen the US latch cable. Can someone confirm that it doesn't have the rubber cap like in the picture I posted.

It has something to do with the cable rusting inside the sleve. Mitsubishi sent letters to all thoose that they felt had effected cables. But if yours is having that same problem see your dealer and they will replace for free

I just called my dealer, and they will replace my cable with the new part next Wednesday.

Apparently dealers know about it.

I think it's all the Lancer (Galant) series in Japan. You should pop open your hood to see if you have a rubber cap on the cable.

yeah, if you are having a tough time opening the hood, bring it to the dealership and as long as you are under basic factory warranty, they will get the issue fixed for you. There is a TSB on them issued earlier this year or late last year.

PURPOSE
On some vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, corrosion on the inside of the hood lock release
cable can make it difficult to release the hood locking latch using the latch handle. This Service Campaign
authorizes dealers to replace the hood lock release cable with an improved part designed to prevent internal
corrosion. Refer to the Parts Information section of this campaign bulletin for additional information.
AFFECTED VEHICLE(S)
2008 Lancer Evolution built prior to October 15, 2008
2009 Lancer RALLIART built prior to October 15, 2008
NOTE: Dealers are requested to inspect their new and used vehicle inventories and repair affected
vehicles as described in this bulletin

This is directly off the Mitsu Dealerlink site

i checked my car but what i did to improve this problem was that i moved the rubbers which align the hood when its closed i moved them lower this seemed to help a lot also i used grease on the mecanism and know all is fined.
if you would have rust build up on your cable then the lever would be dificult to pull even when the hood is opened ,mine was very loosed up when the hood was opened up.
also to is300 do you feel anything better with the new cable?and you should check with them why didnt the new cable bring the rubber plastic.

I told them to order the part first, then I would bring it in.

Saves the hassle...
