So which of the two STOCK MITSU oil filter do you like to use?

The dealer sells 2 types of OEM filters for our Evo Xs

part# MZ690116 which is the short stubby filter

part# MZ690072 which is the slimmer longer one

I use the 2nd one I guess it does have a little bit more surface area. How about you guys?

Not trying to contradict you. But Pete over at Works recommended going with the 690072..

Skinny ones cause they are easier to put on and take off.

I just picked one up this week for my first oil change in the X. I gave the parts guy my vin and he gave me MZ6900116 which also happens to be the number of the filter on my car now which means this filter came on the car from the factory.

Short stubby oem filter MZ690116 is the part number multiple dealerships give me when requesting an evo x filter. It's also what came on the car new like someone else posted. I'd stick with what Mitsu recommends if you are deciding between two oem filters.

MZ690072 and MZ690116 both fit 4G63 engines. It just depends on the year, which one came factory, either will fit. FYI, those two numbers are the only numbers from Mitsubishi made for their entire engine lineup, it's not like there is anything else to choose from. All previous part numbers have been discontinued.

I recently did my first oil change and used the MZ690072. It's easier to remove and has a bit more surface area on the outside which can help cooling. I've never been a big fan of short/stubby oil filters. Most cars have multiple oil filters available including the 4G63. I'm more worried about the quality of the filter.

I don't use the OEM, but the ones I do use are the longer ones... I don't think either way it makes a difference, except for ease of taking it off and putting it on.

I only use the short one (MZ690116) as there have been a few cases of the long filter coming loose due to contact with the road/road debris etc.. The location of the oil filter is not in the best place on evo's.
