Need Some Help

Well I was just driving home tonight when my service engine came on. I was coming down the side street doing about 30mph then I went to shift to 4th about about 4000rpm when it came on. Then I come to a stop at the stop sign and now my car starts ideling at about 3000rpm. What could of caused this? History of the car is its an evo x that has about 1700 miles on it. I have an AEM intake and Buschur cat back with a tune. I turned the car off and when it came back on it started ideling normal again but the engine light still there. So I guess what Im asking is what could of caused this proublem?

and yes before some of you guys start ripping me apart saying check the forums I've been reading about the same problems alot of these guys have had like limp mode and ideling to high. The only difference I see with all of them is they had or used an after market bov. I never had or used one so idk what else could be causing this.

How long ago did you install the AEM intake? Also, I would try taking the car to an autozone to have them pull and read the code for free.

No i was doing 30 then when I shifted into 4th I was doing about 40 so the rpms were rising and when I hit 4000rpms thats when it happend...sorry if there was any confusion on my part.

The intake was my first mod and never had a problem with it. Probably put it on at about 700 miles on the car. An I will probably go to autozone friday to do that. I have work and its not my daily driver so can not do it tomorrow.

Well most likely your proublem is being caused by the test pipe. If you are not properly tuned for this test pipe then your cel will come on. My car was properly tuned for this stuff and I've had it for about 2 weeks after the tune with no problems. Now just driving home doing nothing this happened to kinda confused to say the least...lol

P0102 will be your code.

You need a new MAF.

[edit] Just a guess, of course...

Now to sound like a complete newb, but what would of caused my MAF to go bad? The parts I had on the car?

They seem to be going bad without any outside interference. Ask me how I know? I'm driving round with a P0102 right now and it sucks. However, a dirty MAF can also throw the code, so if you have a rechargeable filter then the oil could have contaminated the MAF and a clean is all it needs. I'm guessing it's just ****ed though.

With me, the car idles at 3K with the A/C on and I feel like I'm driving a NA car. Just stay off the gas until you can confirm the code or get the dealer to fix it.

Yea I dont drive my car hard at all...basically baby the **** out of it since I basically work for my car and dont wanna break it. I'll get it checked for the code this week then hopefully get it over to my boy pete and DG to get it taken care of...and possibly add a couple more toys to the car since I'll be over there...lol.

Thank you UFO for the help I appreciate it. Lets me breath a little easier.

I agree that the problem is with the test pipe, however, we both have the same miles on the car and the service engine soon light came on at the sime time. I was too shifting from 3rd to 4th while putting a bus srt4 (no offense).
I'll get it checked out tmrw and see what's up. Good luck with your ish, hope its nothing serious!

Chances are if it is a new cold air kit the factory did not over oil it. The problems with aftermarket kits is when people go to clean and re oil them, they use too much oil and then the MAF has issues.

I would take off the cold air kit and turn it back to stock and then take it to the dealer. You do not want the dealer to blame the cold air kit.
