Evo X weight...

i've asked this question before, but never got a straight answer. When they give the X's weight, are they going by the base GSR? SSS? MR? Which one? With the bigger stereo alone that would save him much to the base GSR? Anyway.... which model are we talking about? Every time I see a test on motor trend or whatever it's always got the taller wing.

I corner weighed my SSS for the Evom three chassis comparison article in my sig. Here's some info copied and pasted for you:

CZ4A Evolution X GSR SSS
Curb weight. Front, rear weight distribution: 3510 pounds, 57% front, 43% rear
Corner weights: FL-1024 FR-989 RL-735 RR-762
Test notes: ¾ tank of fuel. Spare tire out, Recaro child seat in, weighed as driven.

This is with an Ultimate Racing full turbo back catless exhaust with O2 downpipe and upper intercooler pipe. With the spare in, kids seat out, weight is 3568 at 3/4 tank of fuel. Mitsu rates the non SS at 3515 pounds. Hope this helps.

3515 stock right? I wonder if that's with full fuel or not.

I'd say yes on a base.

3515 lbs... How much do you think the child's seat and spare tire will give you once removed?

Gasoline weighs just over 6 lbs per gallon, so the difference between a full Evo and a nearly empty one is over 80 pounds.

A spare tire weighs around 25-30 lbs and a child seat 20-25 pounds. If you took out the spare and was driving around with just a few gallons left in the tank, you're effectively driving a 3400 lb Evo (which is still a good bit heavier than the 8 or 9 )

Problem is that first of all the EVO X is a fair bit larger overall than the EVO VIII or IX. Second of all the X has much more mandated safety equipment than the older models. To save 200 lbs to be in line with the IX Mitsubishi would have had to make the EVO X smaller in dimensions which would be impossible as the car the EVO is based on (Lancer) couldn't compete with Civics and Corollas (cars that are larger than the outgoing models) if it was smaller than last gen. There is really nothing Mitsubishi can to with the new platform to make the EVO X lighter without extensively using aluminum and carbon fiber which would make the car far too expensive.

The GTR is close to 3800 lbs and 370Z is close to 3300 lbs and it's a smaller car without the extra equipment required of AWD so it's not like other brands aren't struggling keeping the weight of new cars down as well. You keep adding equipment and making cars bigger it's pretty common sense that they will weight more. It's like some of you people expected the EVO X to be made of all-aluminum or something.

My 08 Evo X GSR Base , with CF high wing, got corner balanced way back. And i had a single cat back /Artisan/
Gram lights 18/9.5 +22 with 255 tires, KW V3. Thats all modification i had.
no rear seats , empty trunk , but full tank of gas.
Full stereo and everything else in the car. Not even small battery , no crash beams removed etc. Basically full stock with empty trunk + no rear seats.
And i weight:

lol i'd like to see how much my car weighs on that thing. are the rear seats pretty heavy? looks like removing them changed the weight distribution a pretty good amount.. isn't like 56/44 stock? or the exhaust weight savings must have been relatively decent.. plus lighter wheels, lighter suspension.. that's a good amount of savings i'm sure there wasn't a spare tire/wheel either

yeah the trunk was empty. The Wheels wasn't really much lighter thought.
But the exhaust is really lighter then a stock so as the coil overs. The X rear seats have metal bars so kinda heavy too.

The car is in race mode now, so probably around 3300 lb with full FIA rally spec cage.
The front seats are heavy too. But what i find amazing , the Airbags and the base stereo wasn't heavy at all. I thought i can safe a LOT more weight to remover them.

PS the shop is pretty known around here. SO the scale is dead on. They work on so many serious race cars, where is a weight is very important by rules .
