Phantom Shut Down Issue

I am having a shut down issue with my Evo X MR 08. My Evo has done this about 4 times in the past 6 months since I owned the vehicle(stock exhaust).

Once in a blue moon, when I start the car the rpms will go around 400-600 stay there for about 20 secs or so then the car will shut down. When I am like wtf and restart the car everything is fine..

I took the vehicle in to find out what is happening about a month ago. According to the local mits dealer my Evo was the 3rd one in for this problem. They said it was a easy fix (only had to update my stock map). Now a month later the same issue again, but this time I have a HFC and exhaust. And lord behold metal on metal sounds coming out from my tail pipes when it happens. !!!

I am taking the car back to the dealer to find out what is happening. What I was wondering is if someone here has an idea what is happening or had this experience too.

Update: I called the dealer they won't see my car until Monday.

I don't understand what is happening. The main reason I dont understand is because there is no service soon or anything when this happens. I should have stay with my 03 VIII! I just hope the dealer doesn't see any evidence of my cobb tuning once I uninstall it.

I just had this exact problem this afternoon. It happened to my Evo X twice. I start the car the tach needle jumps around below 2k and back up to 2k again then shuts down. I restarted it then everything's fine. Same thing happened again the 2nd and last time. I wonder what's causing this coz this is a brand new X and I dont see any reason why this would happen. I'll observe till this weekend and if it happens again Ill take it back to the dealer.

I hope its not a crankshaft position sensor problem that plagued VQ Nissans. Those would shut down too unexpectedly.
