Hood vents

Hey all, have been looking to replace the hood vents on my EVO 10. I would like some that have the black wire mesh instead of the slits from the factory. Anyone know if these are sold and who sells them? Thanks...

Scott

I haven't seen any. The slits are used so water doesn't drop down into the engine. Why change?

Are you talking about covering the open slits with mesh? (Leaving everything intact)
Or removing the entire slit/gutter assy and replacing that with mesh? (Letting water into the engine compartment)

I have seen a few different looking slits on other body kit hoods from different companys. But nobody showed just this item. Of course I know if it is completely open it will let water into the engine bay, but figured some of them may be designed to channel water differently. Was just asking if anyone knew since I have seen it on a few kit hoods. Kinda looked cool. Here is a link to a vid I saw with this installed:

Look at the scene with the hood

fq 400 comes without slits!!! It really doesnt matter if water touches your engine, unless you submerge it lol
Im thinking of going with black mesh!!!

i removed my cover(slits) a long time ago. more water gets into the engine when you lift the hood and it drains than anytime else.

The rexpeed ones are way thicker/beefier than the ones in the video.

I also removed the cover (not the plastic but the metal cover underneath it), long, long time ago. The placement of the vents practically guarantees you won't get water anywhere crucial even if you are using an open element filter. I've driven through some pretty bad weather, (torrential downpours) without a problem so...

mesh or slits... does it even matter? if the changing in the mesh ones will do any sort of damage to the engine (or engine bay area), don't you think the aftermarket companies know that? And why would any aftermarket company want to lose customers by putting out a product that is gonna damage their customers' rides?

for stock engines i would say that i don't see any serius problem, if you have an aftermarket Intake......you migh have to check first.
mine is Cobb, meaning that my intake is right under the vent. i would avoid to put in contact my Cone filter with the rain directly. couple of drops doesn't make diference.

Plenty of companies have released products that could potentially damage a customer's car. Don't just assume others are not out there trying to make a quick buck.

Tons of this ^. Just because a part gets made, doesn't mean it won't cause damage.

I keep an eye on the MS3 boards because I think it's a sharp car, and there was a vendor on there routinely selling engine mounts that failed, causing major damage. He'd replace the broken ones with revised parts, only to have them break again.

It's probably not a big deal considering where they are, but if you have an open air filter I'd definitely stay away.
