Why do I keep coming back to the Evo other than it is fun to drive?

The Corvette has a large, clunky feeling. The Corvette is much faster (they say) but it really doesn't have the excitement factor. The C6 is probably a better highway car. The C6 would be about 6,000 more than the Evo.

I'm bad about buying and buyers remorse and I'm trying to prevent a purchase I would regret.

The little secret is I'm 56 years old and everyone in my age group wants a Corvette, not an Evo. Kick, me again. I can't decide.
I'm not as old as you but I'm 38 and have a MR with the wing removed. I have a drop in K & N , hi-flow cat and a custom dyno tune all for under 1000.00 and sounds like stock. I bet I'm at 400 engine hp close to the vette and would kick its butt in most duels except a drag race, but who knows I cant get any of those old geezers to race Now as far as the price its more like a 10-15 gran difference, I paid 34,000 new with 0% finiancing. thats 6 grand off sticker. Those new vettes are sticker around 50,000 not sure what they are actually selling for. hope this helps. Forget the GSR it's ride is to harsh for your age, mine too and the seats feel like they were made for a hyundai. The SST tranny is awesome 99% of people that mock it never drove it.

Age is just a number. Get the EVO and put the rest in a IRA. When buyers remorse sets in or you see a Vette, remind yourself of the debt.

I'm not a fan of the MR just because of the problems associated with increasing the torque of the car.
actually I find the 5 speed gsr a little easier to shift..well mostly the clutch pedal is a lot easier to press because the pressure plate is really gay in the evo. the vette one is kind of setup for the torque that's coming off the back of the 6.x liter engines.

the trans is in the rear so the linkage is a bit vague compared to the older C4's that had a direct connection...so the evo x isn't bad in comparison.

Z06 destroys the EVo if the driver good also on track and close to ideal circumstances . I think lesser driver, with the Evo X will be faster on track. But on the high way, basically wont matter. The Z06 is simply will destroy the evo.

Practicality, there is no comperision. The EVo wins hands down. Snow - rain wont matter. Also 4 door etc.
so for fun for a good driver track Z06 no brainer.

DD + fun = Evo

Its a tough choice, I have never liked a vette untill the C6...But I have never really driven rwd either...
The vette is beautiful, but as others have stated if you are going to track the car, or have long hwy trips, get the vette...

otherwise get the X MR and tune it then you have a rather fun all around strong in all aspects..

I think the fact that you keep coming back to the evo says something. You previously had one, so you know what your in for. If your worried about highway, is there another car you could take on long trips? The x isnt TOO bad on highway, as long as u keep it in prime mpg range. ( im really bad at this, if you like to cruise at 90 then no haha)

But the x by no means will become boring to drive. Had mine for over a year and i just love driving the thing. if the x's styling is a bit racer boy for you, the 2010s have a touring option thats toned down a bit in terms of style.

I currently drive a Caddy CTS-V. If you want VETTE power with 4 doors, you should test drive a CTS-V. It really is the best of both worlds.

I have the 05 with the Z06 LS6 engine - 400hp. It's an AMAZING engine that pulls like a beast. Powerband is thru the roof... Amazing handling for such a big car and on straights it leaves tons of sports cars for dead.

If you drive the newer version it has a supercharged detuned version of the ZR1 engine with 556hp - and your required 4 doors... That car is a MONSTER and set the sedan record on the RING.

My current V is getting up there in mileage (60K) so I'm scouting the field for my next purchase and I'm strongly considering either the EVO X MR (less costly option)/ Lexus ISF / or the newer Caddy CTS-V.

I have always loved the handling of the EVO (test drive) and I really like the styling of the EVO X. I really think I'm leaning towards the X but I know the mod bug will hit me bigtime because I will miss having the V's power / torque.

The Z06 engine only has 400 hp? I thought the C6 engine had 400 hp?

From Wikipedia:

The 6.0 L LS2 V8 produces 400 hp (298 kW) at 6000 rpm and 400 lb·ft (542 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm.
The Z06 achieves a fuel economy of 15 mpg-US (16 L/100 km; 18 mpg-imp) in the city and 18 mpg-US (13 L/100 km; 22 mpg-imp) on the highway,[9] and the output is 505 hp (376 kW).

And as an asside... I thought the ZR1 was over 600.

^ Correct, the ZR1 has over 600hp. Although the newest CTS-V shares the same engine as the ZR1, they detuned it from the factory (supporting components are not the same perhaps?)... thus it has 556hp. It's like comparing the Evo X and the Ralliart, same 4B11T, but RA has lesser HP due to smaller turbo, FMIC, different ECU tune, etc.

Edit: not sure if I addressed your question correctly :X

Close enough... So they detuned the ZR1 motor from 600 to just a little over what the Z06 motor and put it in the CTS-V... Why not save money and just drop the LS7 straight in and make the car cheaper? Oh well, GM is losing money...

The old ones must've been pre-C6 era, when the Z06 had 400 hp (ala the C5), I failed to make that connection.

you are over simplifying GM LSx series motor history.

-the old Z06 was 5.7 liter, but it did rev to 7k rpm- it is considered better than the 6 liter LS2 by many.

-the new base engine in the vette/camaro etc is the 6.2l LS3 @430 hp. it is more than just a 30 hp bump..it's got more mid range punch too. it has LS7 derived cylinder heads and the same Z06 injectors so 475-500 hp modded is assured without buying too much.

the detuned cadillac CTS-V 6.2 supercharged unit uses cast pistons, a smaller supercharger- non- titanium rods and a few other details as such to keep the cost down and a motor that is tighter and won't use oil when it is cold.

-the LS7 is high compression with pretty thin cylinder linings since the block is still a small block dimension the same as the 5 and 6 liter displacements in the engine series. The supercharger ran too hot for not enough coolant passage and liner thickness on the big bore LS7. The 6.2 supercharged makes a warrantied and emissions compliant 638 hp in the ZR1. the LS7 7-liter motor is N/A which would tend to be more reliable and lighter for endurance use.
