I have the same problem..it's the evaporator drain clogged with dirt and dust and keeps a pool of water in your ac box. You can open the windows and run the heater for about 1/2 an hour to dry it all out and hopefully kill the mildew and mold that stinks. If you spray a little lysol into the fresh air intake on the cowl by the windshield wipers while it is running, it will vent thru and help kill the odor too.
make sure the vent is set to outside air and you should pop out the cabin filter for a quick look at that too (behind glove box).

ok after several days of looking the car with a mitsutech he found that the smell that comes from the back of my car is not under seat.
it has to do with the battery and a small tube that comes out of it,this tube goes through the car and goes under the car its position on top of the exhaust so when we looked at the stock exhaust it has some white spots on it and he says thats the acid coming from the battery so when this acid hits the exhaust it produces the wierd smell and it get inside the cabin via the vents on the trunk.
so we will see how we re-route the tube so the acid doesnt fall on the exhaust.
