I was cruising with a friend yesterday, on my way home from school for Thanksgiving, when it was time to part ways, i did a small pull. I got a call from my friend, saying, "Holy sh*t man, your car sounds like a Goddam jet taking off!!"
when i got home i had a friend do a fly by past me, and it really does sound like a jet. My X is basically stock, has a K&N drop in, Nisei UICP, and the flap is removed from the stock exhaust. But man when it hits full boost, it really does sound like a jet taking off

Just thought i'd share, anyone else been told your car sounds like a jet?

yea i been there... except i was in my DSM.. and was told that by the cops.. who thankfully thought my car was cool and BS'd about it for a while before letting me go with no tickets..

 

Yeah with my greddy SE exhaust it definitely has a distinct sound to it.

 

It could also be a loose hose (most likely in the upper intercooler piping to intercooler). I had a similar sound and discovered the hose to the intercooler was loose. After it was fixed, it sound less like a jet airplane.

 

The stock exhaust on my IX sounded like a jet under full spool. Not a loud exhaust tone, just can only really hear the air rushing out. It was kinda strange.

Edit: As if you were next to the evo and it passed by you.

 

If you really wanna sound like a jet get the magnaflow cat back I was shocked at how similiar my car sounded like a jet.

 

i think the X is super super quiet!!

Yeah when I went for a test drive at another dealership they had a blue X that sounds like a jet when it takings off but my X doesn't do that. Marketing scheme?

 

Everyone always comments on how quite my X is until it's at higher rpms or full boost! I remember passing my girlfriend and she said it sounded like a UFO/space ship. The video I'm posting is not something I put together, I just happened to stumble across it on one of those massive EVO youtube binges I sometimes go on, enjoy!

i asked my brother to do a full boost drive by on my X for me. he's used to his gt500 so when he got on my car--and with the heavy bolstered seat and the ridiculously huge spoiler on the rearview mirror, he said it's like a jet cockpit inside.

anyway, he did a drive by and at full boost, there's that distinct loud hissing sound..i'm not sure if that's that "jet sound".

 

It does have a distinctive sound to it, I was always told that. It might sound like a jet but too bad it isnt. It would be nice to hit mach 2!

 

Here is a pretty crappy quality video of the very first autocross I ever did. I had the HKS Legamax cat-back on my car at the time, and the "jet" sound is very apparent.
