Hey all! New MR needs upgrades

Just got one last week and would like to know your input on the best bang for your buck on engine upgrades, IE intake, computer, exhaust, ect. I would like to get another 75hp out of her without too much mumbo jumbo.

.... I don't think buchnerj noticed you were in a x.

o2 housing / downpipe makes a very small difference in the X compared to the VIII / IX.

Xs can just about get 75hp with just a custom tune. If I were you, I'd at least get an intake (drop-in filter or cone filter depending how far you want to go) and a catback with a test pipe. Then get it tuned and you'll probably net around 75-80whp. Also get some sort of boost gauge. I got the blitz DC turbo timer / boost gauge combo. I love it. It keeps track of peak, automatically adjusts your idle times, and is small (perfect for the MR). Only thing bad is it is in bars instead of psi. But that converts easy enough.

Let me be the contrarian...

Follow the COBB staged upgrades exactly for trouble free, smooth horsepower.

(Do not waste money on an intake if you are going to get tuned, or go the COBB route, because the tune cancel out the effect of the intake)

Stage 1 - COBB AccessPort; 19% increase in power from stock

Stage 2 - AccessPort + Turbo Back Exhaust; 28% increase in power from stock

And you are in DFW... Talk to COBB in Plano, with their challenge you might swing a custom tune (they call it a "calibration") on their Mustang Dyno for the price of the AP.

Totally agree. This WILL be the best bang for the buck.

Thanks guys, looks like I will be doing the COBB tune. Question, is it worth changing the IC tubing from rubber to hard?

Yes, especially the Upper pipe. But the lower pipe being changed increases throttle response, but that is it. No gains.

I have intake, O2 housing, TP and cat-back + Cobb AP stage 2, I made 299whp (stock was 223whp) 76whp off that. I thought that wasn't quite enough for me so I didn't a custom tune on it.

I went with Fujitsubo cat-back, AEM intake and Works custom tune. Netted me approx. 300 hp and lb/ft torque at the wheels. More importantly, much more area under the curve and torque comes on much earlier. Coupled with AST suspension, makes for a perfect daily driver.

Nothing helps in keeping the power to the ground like a set of engine mounts. I myself like the TorqueSolution engine mount and inserts.

A set of sway bars will do wonders for the ride that you will want with that increase in power!

What is the best mod to get the car off and going from a stand rather than the way it does now: a slow start with a jerky increase in power towards the middle-end of the first gear? Jon at HBspeed says he has some tweaks for the SST just for that.
