The guys that are running something like an FP Red on E85 (35psi) usually crush the stock BOV to effectively make the spring stronger. You could also buy a stock-like BOV that has a stronger spring in it (the JDM Coto Sports does. $$). I haven't seen any domestic offerings like that for the X (Works and Tomei have ones advertised for the IX but I've had people tell me that the IX BOV should work).

I believe it is technically called a 'diverter' valve since it recircs. Regardless, I still call it a BOV so everyone knows what I'm talking about.

You only need an aftermarket BOV when you are hitting high boost numbers. The stock ones work just fine in the low 20 psi range. Other change it to get the swoosh sound.

just like stated bovs are not meant for power there there to release the excessive air from the turbo and some are there to create that swoooooooooosh noise thats the main head turner for cops

1) You require a BOV, without one the car wont run very well and bits will eventually fail.

2) The concept of a BOV wont make any additional power, however the implementation of most BOV's means that "upgrading" to a better one means you will gain more power.

I should install a compressor and tank in my trunk and make it vent some air every time I let off the gas, that way my X would be cool.

owat? Why not route your A/C ducts to your engine bay, that way it stays cool!

It's pretty simple really. 80% of people that replace the stock bypass valve for a BOV is to rice out their car. The other 20% of people that replace the stock bypass valve for a BOV do it out of necessity due to running a larger than stock turbocharger with extensive tuning.

They're the same thing, different wording...

Bypass/recirc and BOV are technically two different things. However it is similar to the Band-aid phenomenon, everyone usually refers to them as BOVs.

I cant beileve that hearing the BOV is now RICE...Sad; sad to me. I love the sound of the BOV.

Does loving the sound of my external wastegate make me rice? Loving my friends Z06's exhaust make me rice?

I agree with you on this one. A BOV is part of owning a turbo car. Upgrading to a better valve is never "rice". Everyone that looks for an aftermarket exhaust based on sound must be a "ricer" too...
