Battery getting weak....OUCH

Wow, just had my car in for an oil change. The tech noticed it seemed a little weak starting. Did a battery test and it was weak. The problem is the battery is only warranted in full for 24 months, mine is 27...of course.

They will do a 50% prorated amount. I do not know if you are aware but the battery for this car is $300.00!!!!! OUCH. My only guess is that I just do not drive enough. 12k miles on my 2008.

I guess since the battery is in the trunk, they need to use a dry cell.

Not $300, go this route. Cheaper, Cooler, Lighter.

Good point, I'm not sure. Maybe someone with it or an AMS guy can give us a hand.

Their webpage says:
**Please note this battery was not intended to operate high output stereo systems, mild stereo's are compatible.**

I don't think this battery would work well with the Rockford Fosgate system. The sub, while not the best, is pretty decent and I wouldn't consider it to be a mild stereo. Mild stereo to me would just be head unit + speakers, no sub.

I'd think you'd be able to get an Optima red top for less than $300

The stock replacement batter is an Optima redtop...hence the $300 replacement cost.

Check to make sure the battery isn't covered by the 3yr/36mo bumper to bumper warranty.

The battery is specifically listed as 24/24 coverage at 100% replacement costs, including labor. The third year - out to 36/36, is covered at 50% (don't know about the labor though).

The stock Panasonic is replaced by the red-top Optima under warranty.

Cost reasons would be my guess. The Panasonic is probably 1/2 the cost of the Optima. I don't believe they knew it would fail as much as it has. The Panasonic battery in my Evo X failed...thankfully within the warranty period and they replaced it with the Optima. So, rather than replacing with the Panasonic and having it fail again, they decided to replace with the Optima.

The labor is covered with the replacement of $150.00, just to clear that up. I am just going to go with the factory replacement. I don't want electrical gremlins causing trouble or potential trouble. I do have the RF system also.

I was just amazed of the failure so soon, and secondly that it was not a warranty item after 24 months. Especially since I am at about 27 months. If I would have known these tend to fail quickly, I would have gotten in there and had it tested before I was out of warranty!!
