Dewinging Question
Dewinging Question
I decided to dewing today after work on a whim (I don't know how I feel about it yet though). How do you remove the clip-like plastic things? I tried pulling them out but they didn't want to move and I didn't want to break them since I may be rewinging soon.
Here is a picture of what I am talking about

Here is one of the look I am not sure about.

also any tips on what to cover the holes up with? i am aware of getting colored vinyl and cutting little circles and putting that on. i know the srt-4 guys buy plugs from home depot and paint them and stick them in. i will have to research it.
anyway back to the point of this thread of how to remove those plastic clips.
tons of double sided tape on it but nothing a hairdryer and meguir's paint cleaner couldn't handle. that seriously is the best way to remove that stuff.....effortless.
there are a few visual things i'd like but i'd rather spend my cash on performance stuff like wheels/tires and suspension mods.

How heavy are the X factory wheels? I doubt many wheels (especially in the cheaper range) weigh much less. I don't know how much the RA tails are, but personally I think they are a must on the X. Just like overlays are on the STi. But I hear you on doing performance first. Still...
As for covering the holes, the two things you suggested are what most of the Evo guys here do. One made some cool custom carbon fiber vinyl overlays and put them over. Rather than just dots they are a cool pattern.
I'm also betting those clips can be had for less than 5 bucks total at Mitsu. Just break em out. Or look inside and see if they have parts you can squeeze with a pair of pliers or something.
Long nose pliers: carefully squeeze the two sides together and lift up. Carefully because you don't want to scratch your paint. If you just yank them out they will bend the metal.

I got a whole sheet of white vinyl from a sign-making shop for free and a punch that makes 3/4" dots from a scrapbook place for $5. It hides the holes pretty good. One day I will get it welded up and re-sprayed. Did that on my Evo 8 too and it turned out good. If you need some of the vinyl, send me your snail mail adr in a PM. Wingless
What does it matter that his car looks better with the wing, he likes it without.
He is asking how to remove the plastic clips.
I would try the pliers technique sounds like the best idea.
