Trying to build my perfect Evo X help me out here

So I'm considering selling my 2006 M5 and getting something a bit cheaper in terms of fuel consumption, insurance, and just overall cost to maintain. I was wondering if you guys could give me an idea of costs of certain things before i try picking up an Evo X. here are pics of some mods im considering as well.

1. whats the mpg on a stock evo? (i plan to mod but only simple things the dealer would let me get away with to keep warranty intact)

2. Does the Evo X come in 6sp manual? Or with half leather seats like the Evo ix

3. What would a used 2008 Evo X cost me with 20-30k miles

4. What are the front lip and rear trunk in these pictures and what will they cost me? And is this silver trim around the front grille a stock option or an addon?

Thanks for the help guys

1. Rated at 16/22, I seem to average 17-19 with mixed driving. I expect it will get better with a tune.
2. 5-speed manual in the GSR and 6-speed paddle-shifter in the MR. Leather is only available in the MR (2008-2010).
3. $24-32k depending on model, condition, options, etc.
4. Stock on the MR.

Routine maintenance costs include oil changes every 5k miles (~$30 for Mobil 1 and a OEM Mitsu filter, give or take a few bucks), drivetrain fluids annually (for the GSR ~$50 but again it depends on your fluid choice, far more expensive with a MR), brake fluid every other year ( more often if you track the car), cabin air filters every 15-30k miles, etc. Nothing really out of the ordinary, but staying up on the drivetrain fluids (tranny, transfer case, and rear differential) is very important.

I went with a GSR because I wanted a real manual transmission, not some paddle-shifting computer controlled thing. SSS package = HID headlights, large rear wing, Rockford Fosgate stereo with sub, and FASTkey system (keyless, just keep the fob in your pocket).

The rear trunk in your second photo is a Do Luck or replica.

If you plan on auto-x or tracking you won't regret the 5-speed. Everyone that DD's their 5 speed wishes they had a 6 at one time or another, either to have a better cruise rpm and/or economy. I have no complaints about my '08 GSR, I love how it growls at 4.5k at highway speeds .

The MR has half leather, half sports cloth/suede seats, while the MR touring has full leather seats, that are heated mind you. but thats only available in the 2010 models

You can buy an aftermarket leather package and have an upholstery shop retrofit it, if that is important to you. You might be surprised to discover that custom upholstery costs about the same as the dealer would have charged you for it (obviously the financing scenario is different).

The average priced for a used car is about 26k. My bank recently let me borrow 28k against my car, if that is helpful info...

If I had to do it over again I'd not want anything more than SSS on my car and I'd even think twice about whether HIDs mattered that much to me. You can do much better on your own with bodykits and stereos. If you are cash poor then may financing is more important to you (I hope not `cause you won't get the best deal).

Man they really cut some corners with these cars. why cant they just offer these options standard from the factory and just charge a bit more for packages. I think i'll go with an 08 gsr and try to find someone selling the half leather mr seats. Really wish there were a sunroof i'd miss it so much. Keyless entry has become something im really used to as well so i'd probably go with the SSS package although i hate that stock front lip(think it looks blocky) and would probably go with the Do luck trunk. Is the Double din a common thing here on the forums, i actually havent seen too many posts about it in the X section. i see some people go with either the metra or jdm kit, but i wonder why you couldnt just buy the stock bracket from the factory, it sticks out a bit more and has a nice silver trim over it as well.

i think also another big worry for me is warranty. i had an evo ix a couple years back and only actually had the car for a year, so i didnt really keep it long enough to have an issues. did simple things to it, full exhaust intake tune. the car was absoloutely amazing. the M5 is incredible on the highway but to be honest im mostly traffic light to traffic light in my neighborhood so the Evo is more fun and better gas milage( M5 is 11mpg) but yes anyway what sort of warranty does mitsubishi offer on the car, is the stock 5 years 60k transferable and can you extend it through mitsu. Also what sorts of mods can i get away with while still being able to bring my car back to the dealer if i ever had an issue. Is there a sort of mitsubishi warrantied performance parts company the way dinan is with bmw?

Bumper to bumper is 3/36 and powertrain is 5/60 (transferable to future owners). Some dealerships are more void-happy than others so talk to the guys in your area and see which dealer they're having the best luck with. With navigation being a fairly expensive option most people seemed to opt against it. The going rate for a used Mitsu navi unit with brackets and trim is about $900-1000, otherwise for about the same price you could do a decent aftermarket setup. Stick with the OEM (JDM or USDM) trims panels though, the aftermarket ones seem to fit very poorly.

thanks kracka, very helpful. another question to throw at your guys, you seem like the right guy to answer this as you went from an 06 ix to a X. i had the 06 gsr as well and the ride was pretty bumpy on that thing, while on my friends 05 MR with the bilsteins the ride was 10x more comfortable. what is the ride like on the X and do people do things like stick bilsteins in? thanks

Regarding the first one:
1. What’s the mpg on a stock evo? (I plan to mod but only simple things the dealer would let me get away with to keep warranty intact)
Fast=bad mpg. Forget about advertizing. if you floor it, you waste it gas, is simple math. All the advertizing today about the 30-50 mpg in car in based in slow driving manners, are you going to drive like your grandma an evo? If your pocket doesn't allow you to fill up your tank every week, change the oil every 3-5k miles and buy $800-1000 in tires every year, the evo is not your car.

To be honest its more a convenience factor than money. In my current car getting 11mpg with an 18 gallon tank i'm filling up every two weeks. Mind you I only drive on weekends. So mainly its to avoid visits to the pump. I know its not a prius but hoping for better than 11mpg
