faulty oil control valve causing exhaust mivec too advanced

so on thursday night, at 611 miles on my car, my ses light comes on. the mitsu service department is already closed so i go to autozone to get the code checked out. I don't remember the exact code, but it was reading something like "exhaust cam too advanced"

so i call my dealer the next morning, plan on bring in my car at 1. on the way to the dealer from work i stopped by the bank. when i started the car up after the bank, the ses light is gone.

I still take it to the dealer to get it checked out. they get the code saying its a faulty cam sensor something or other, run a check on that and its functioning perfectly fine. so they call mitsu and mitsu tells them to check the oil control valve, and that turns out to be the culprit.

so a 2011 with just over 600 miles on it... something's already wrong... i don't like how this is starting out...

has anybody else had a similar issue?

I think it is only a very minor problem in the evo... Don't sweat it.

Thats not common, Any mitsubishi will be reliable for a long time. Any new car of any brand has the possibilty of of something going wrong early in their life. Things happen and you shouldn't take this as a indicator of having persistant problems with the car.

Yes, but how much REALLY went wrong? You got a light, took it to Mitsu, they fixed it... Not like your drove there 100 times, blew a motor, and were down a car for 4 months.

i guess you're right, i just don't really expect to have a single issues this early on in a cars life. out of the 4 other cars that i bought new, i only ever got an engine check light on one of them... when i blew out a cat on my 350z at the track... and that was at 40k or so.

i mean its not really a big deal, and it doesn't seam to be anything serious...

but thats all besides the point, the real question was if anybody else had this problem... and if its just a random fluke of if it was caused by something...

Probably just a fluke unless there was a recall on it. I only had my Ralliart 2 months and about 4 recalls came out for fuel rail, hood latch cable, and some other stupid stuff. You got a good car!

maybe the problem is with the new exhaust for 2011?

Maybe the problem was caused by the fact that the 2011 models have that new exhaust noise? Has your problem been solved yet? How long did it take them to fix the problem?

quit complaining! **** happens. you know how many recalls/tsb's there were for the 08's when they came out?

if you plan on modding the car, then you can pretty much expect little bumps in the road in the process.

I went in on friday, it took them about 1.5 hours to figure out whats wrong with the car. they said it'll take 3-4 business days to get the new valve in, and then about 1.5 hours to switch it out. I'm hoping I can take it in on friday...

I'm not gonna quit complaining. I know **** happens, but it shouldn't happen under 1k miles imho...

and I know there will be bumps in the road when modding, this isn't my first car thats gonna have mods. but the car is still stock.

I mean I know its a relatively minor problem, and they are fixing it pretty quick, but I didn't expect to have issues so soon, especially when its still all stock...

Sorry to hear you're having some troubles mate, but I'm glad to know the problem is getting solved and you won't be out of a ride for long at all. I can understand having any kinds of issues on your Evo so soon is discouraging (especially after a respectable down payment!), but try not to let it ruin your outlook on the car in general. Odds are you're going to have a reliable machine for some time to come, even if you DD it (just get ready to turn the music up on the highway cause the Evo drones ).

What are your plans for the car by the way? Do you drive it daily?

Jose
