Snow tomorrow.. need advice on which car to drive.
So tomorrow we are supposed to get some snow in the mid-atlantic area and I was hoping you guys could help me to decide on which car to drive 36 miles (mostly highway).
2005 Acura RSX Type S - All Season Tires (half tread life remaining)
2008 EVO X MR - Summer Tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Brand New)
In the little snow that I've driven in thus far with the EVO, it seems to provide better traction than my RSX with the snow setting, but I don't think it's been significant enough to really know for sure.
Thoughts and opinions?

I know the EVO is AWD, but with summer tires the AWD will be useless without traction. The FWD RSX should do much better with all seasons. I drive my FWD eclipse with all season goodyear eagle gts without a problem.
I would drive the RSX. I owned one for 6 years here in MN and it's decent in the winter w/All season tires. The Evo is going to be limited by you tires and the temperature. Summer tires get about as much traction as hockey pucks when it drops below freezing.

An inch of snow is nothing, I have driven a fwd car with all seasons in 5+ inches of snow 4-5 times in the last two years with no problems. Drive slow and carefully.
Summer tires will just cause the car to slide like a hockey puck on ice.

Stay Home!!
But if you have to go out, take the evo tires off and drive the RSX With the Evo tires and rims to a tire shop where they can put snow tires on. Then put them back on the Evo and enjoy.

I drove an '02 RSX type S through 7 Massachusetts winters on all seasons. Drove on the stock Advans on the Evo through 2(09-10). The RSX is a very capable car in all seasons. Just don't try to go up any steep grades and take turns on the slow side or else you'll definately be sliding the rear into oncoming traffic. Don't try to drive the Evo on summer tires PERIOD! You're just asking for trouble.

DO NOT!!!! take out the evo on summer tires!! I've done that once and almost ran into cars or other things several times. The car just slides and you don't have any control over it. You will totally regret it if something happens.. Not worth it.
Get some winter tires on it.. then you're golden! I go up snowy/icy hills better than majority of suv's with my w300's

Take it from a Montreal snow driver, there is no substitute for winter tires.
That said, you can probably get away with either car on 2 conditions-
1) you know what you are doing in snow conditions
2) you can control the other drivers stupids moves around you.
Most of the time, if you drive slowly and correct, others take you out, especially if they don't have snow tires.
Just as a side note, when I got my Evo in November last year, i was curious to see just how far I could get away with snow, before putting the snow tires on. Honestly, this is the best traction car I have ever driven in the snow- tires or not!!
My previous benchmark was my ITR with serious snow tires.
Goodluck tomorrow!
