What to look for in a 2008 Evo X

I'm looking to buy an Evo, and was wondering what to look for in a 2008? I know the seats have problems with coming apart, but anything else?

Check for a oil leaking with oil on the engine tray in the vicinity of the oil filter. It was a problem on the early cars which was supposed to be fixed with a TSB (the TSB "fix" consisted of plastering goo around the outside of the timing chain cover).

Check the front brake caliper color if you want to see if it has been to the track...took less than a day to change mine from bright red with white lettering to a very dark red (almost brown) with gold lettering.

Other thing would be to check for mods, especially if buying from a dealer where you can't talk to the previous owner.

2nd this. I just did my first oil change on my 08 and have an oil leak by the water pump. When I asked about it they said it tends to leak from there and the need to goo it shut. It's a 4 hour job so will have to drop the car off.

Still under warranty though so don't have to pay S*!t...

Test drive it. Does the transmission feel notchy? Listen for rattles inside and outside the car. Ask for carfax and documentation of services performed on the vehicle. Good luck.

A service record is essential to ensure the oil was changed every 3K...if not stay away from it.

Later, Ken

Fuel relays? A known issue really. Also, if you are familiar, take a look at the boost solenoid lines and verify they are properly routed.. Check the exhaust system too.

In general, do your best to verify it's not been molested.
