Crappy situation
Crappy situation
I'm in a jam. It's not with my Evo but it's with my fiances gti. Hopefully you guys can provide me with some insight because i'm stumped...
The spark plugs are soaked in oil. I pulled them today, and each and every one of them, soaked. Here's the story.
A few weeks back my fiance was on her way to work and called me because she was on the side of the road. She said as she was driving, "the car felt like it suddenly lost power, then shut off". So when I got there, I checked the oil - dip stick looked good, turn the car on (without starting it) - no CEL or anything and then I started it up. To be safe, she drove the Evo to work and I followed her in her car. The car drove and felt fine.
A bit later, she mentioned it did it again, this time without the car turning off. Checked it again, no problems.
Well, the other day, she was saying how she needed her oil changed and blah blah blah, and I don't know why, but something was bothering me about the car, so I went out to the drive way and pulled the dipstick, sure as anything, it was completely dry. I put about 3 qts in and the next day she brought it to my service guy and he had the oil changed for me. (This was on monday)
So today, as she's leaving for work she says the car is making a weird noise when she starts it, so I walk out with her, and she starts it, and immediately after starting it, it made a noise that sounded like a pulley was stuck then freed. Hard to explain, but it was not normal, so I had her shut it down. After I dropped her off at work I came home and checked the dip stick... oil. Pulled the plugs, oil. She said the temp gauge never changed either, so that's what confuses me the most. If she ran the motor without oil, it should have seized or over heated.
I don't know where to go from here. It's a 2001 golf gti (2.0L Turbo). It's got like 90K on it. She drove it like... well a chick. 4000 miles a go we had the timing chain and all those goodies replaced, then just the other day the oil.
Here's my worries...
1. She ran the motor without oil and cracked the rings = engine particles everywhere else, potentially damaging the turbo and other internals.
2. There's a crack in the block
3. It's going to cost more to replace/fix the motor, than to pay off the car (owe like 3k on it still)
Any thoughts or input are greatly appreciated. I'm totally stressed out because the only other car we have is my Evo. I'm trying to get it OFF the road, not put it on the road more often...
I know it's a good opportunity to build my self a little monster out of this car, but i'd rather do that to the Evo. Ideally i'd like to get a bike out of this and let her use the Evo. Saw a ducati the other day thats still calling out to me.

Similar situation on my wifes Honda turns out she ran the car out of oil, the cam locked and the pulley slipped so had the head rebuilt, timing belt replaced, and all the accessory belts done. Not three weeks later the car threw a rod and pucnhed threw the head... and destroyed the whole motor because it was low on oil again, it had also just been inspected, fluids changed, and a new rear windshield. terrible
The car was not leaking oil and it didnt seem to be burning oil either. Not sure where the oil was going, I was out of the country during this time frame so I never did figure out what really was the underlying issue and needless to say not at all happy with the shop that worked on the car. But bottom line is figure out the oil issue or there will be some serious problems...
