Is Costco/Sam's Club premium gas bad?
I tend to use Chevron gas... car likes it the most then is Shell. Any other type of gas and the car doesn't feel the same. I tend to get more CELS (running lean) when I put other gas than Chevron. I tend to stay away from cheap gas but that is me...
while I know that gas comes from the same places the additives have to make all the difference right?
our local tuner notices 76 and chevron to be the most knock resistant and make more power on evo's he tunes.

For what it's worth, here is what's advertised at the Costco in Puyallup. The nearest Chevron is about $0.17 more and 76 about $0.23 more. I haven't noticed any performance differences in my car but I haven't been pushing my car either so I'm just judging "daily" driving.
I like the savings considering how fast my Evo goes through a tank. Plus I get 3% back via my credit card!

You guys seriously think you car makes more power running a different brand of gas? I've gotten gas from all the big name people and my tune never changes. Not a single one of them knocks more than the other. You guys need to stop tricking yourselves into thinking the car performs better on brand x than on brand y or z.
The only experience I've had with consistently "bad" gas is Arco. Luckily, I determined that while I was driving a cheap beater, and I have never (and will never) use their gas in my EVO. My butt dyno told me there was less power with the Arco gas (doesn't make much difference at 110 hp), but the most disconcerting part is that the mileage difference between Arco and other brands was significant (down to ~30 mpg from ~35 mpg).
For my EVO, I try to stick to 76, Shell, or Chevron whenever possible. Proof or no, I would rather err on the side of caution.

All I know is the Costco down here in OC, the lines to fill up are like 20mins. There's always like 50 cars waiting.
Rather spend the extra 2$ and go to a name brand place with zero lines

Yeah, I just saw the car listed under your username... looks like you just updated it hehe.
The one at the District in Tustin is like that... and sure enough, even fancy cars go there. I remember seeing an orange Lambo Murcielago in line to fill up.

They buy from whoever is cheapest at the time, and it's different for every store. In the same city, one Costco might be using Citgo gas while the one on the other side of town is using BP. Lots of factors are involved, and contract lengths on supply can vary from as short as month to as long as a year.
Additives aren't added that early in the process, so gas is gas. They have the luxury of being able to shop around, which helps them keep their prices lower. I don't know much anything about fuel additives, but I'm sure they do a good enough job. I'd guess that the major petro companies like shell and BP might have a better handle on things, but I really doubt it matters.
Also, most gas stations have a small convenience store to help supplemental profits and offset overheads. Each Costco gas station has an entire freaking warehouse store to help offset its overheads. Makes a big difference on the bottom line!

I get gas here on base (AFFES) for a lot cheaper then off base. I think gas is gas as long as your sticking to what the books says
But I do wish my car got better gas mileage lol. My car eats gas... guess it doesn't help that I drive fast
