He's trying to blur the line between the Evo and the 335i... but it won't happen... if he wants something closest to the 335i in the Evo, he should go for an MR Touring... that's 40k though, and it still sounds like an inline4 blender

With the hyper pistons and a lack of forged engine components, I'd steer clear. You're better off with a 2003 or 2004 Cobra with a proper engine build capable of 900hp without lifting a valve cover.

I like the sound of my IX exhaust with a no-name stainless TBE. Very "fluttery" sounding at idle and once MIVEC starts advancing the tone changes to a very mean sound almost like a bike.

One of my neighbors thought it was a Diesel just from the exhaust tone.

Just remember you aren't buying the Evo for looks and sound. At least I wasn't, considering I sold my DOHC 32 valve 4.6 V8 with exhaust for the Evo, and it *did* look and sound better than the Evo but seriously lacked in the performance department.

The Evo isn't about sound or looks like Mustangs are. It's about spending the money on the drivetrain and suspension instead of the body and interior.

Really? What planet are you from where a 1 Series M is even comparable to an EVO or a 335i? Maybe you guys are from the planet of "I have so much money it ain't a thang" but no normal guy cross shops a $35K car with a $50K car that will have anywhere from a 5-10K markup (or a $40K markup, http://www.bimmerfest.com/news/550693/bmw-dealer-asking-40k-over-sticker-for-the-bmw-1m-coupe/"). Plus the fact that only approx 1,000 are being made, he may be waiting a long time. But if money ain't a thang that you can cross shop those two, you're really in the wrong forum, the Bugatti forums are over that way.

If paint and exhaust note are going to cause you to second guess this purchase, don't buy an EVO. Those will be the least of your worries if you buy this car. This is a high maintenance fickle vehicle, it ain't no everyman car like a 350Z or a 335i. And if something goes wrong you on your own cuz the dealership ain't helping you out, unless you consider voiding the warranty for breathing on it as being helpful.

Figured you werent, but the new 5.0 has a lot of people cross shopping. Just making sure those cross shoppers know what's going down in 5.0 land.

The reason why I care about the exhaust is because I got used to a phenomenal STOCK exhaust of the 350z (with a CAI) and never owned a 4 cyl before, and didnt realize that its just not as throaty. 2nd the paint issue I am flipping out because I Dont feel like paying 40k for a car that will look like *** after only 10k on it. And finally yea 350z has been pretty worry free (knock on wood) but I wouldnt call 335i an everyman's car, those things are not as common as you think (especially finding one in 6spd with nav) and also are no better in maintenance department than the EVO's

Actually I had RELIABILITY under evo's pros over the 335i

And I had exhaust and cammed V8s.... you do get over it.

Sell the car that looks good and turns heads, to buy the car that looks and sounds like crap which blows away other cars that turn heads.

You seem to really place a lot of worry about what other people think when they see or hear your ride. Who really cares? You realize 99% of people will think you are front wheel drive, with about 120 horsepower and a fart can.

This is not the car to impress people with. Years of 90hp Hondas with wings has completely ruined the publics appreciation for any imported 4 banger, regardless of how fast it really is. Also the Evo attracts men, not women.

ON the CONTRARY, impressing people is what im worried least about, if I wanted to impress people, I would get 335i and wouldnt even look back! I am worried about personal satisfation, I know that evo will give me that in twisties, as my 350z did as well and im sure 335i will not do too bad of a job there either.

Main thing about evo X is that I want to finally have a sunroof in my car, and only way is to buy new 11 model but I just hate to get slammed with 1st year depreciation that is why I am still undecided ( while on the other hang BMW depreciation will be going strong as well the closer it gets to the out of warranty period

Skip the Evo. They're slow, stupid and sound like lawnmowers. They're glorified Honda civics with fart mufflers in my opinion.

Go with the BMW. You'll be much happier driving a man's car. Plus you'll outdriver the ricer in the Evo trying to race you between stop lights!
