Cobb vs open source which is better?
I had both of them and i love Ecuflash i had some problem with my AP the screen when blank twice on me and i had to send it back in my middle of my tune so decide to change to ecuflash since everything is on my laptop. But Cobb is great too if you just want to see some gains with s shelf map. :-) i was super happy with my stage 2 when i had it.
If you plan to go through a tuner, check to find out which method they prefer to work with. If you don't, then you might as well go with Cobb... unless, of course, you're planning to teach yourself how to tune the EVO.
im goin through the same debate with myself right now. i like the idea of plug and play with cobb but not a huge fan of the OTS maps, but the ecuflash seems awesome that you can "be your own tuner" but i dont know much about tuning and dont want to blow anything. plus im not going to be racing or anything, just some spirited driving and the occasional trip to the local drag strip....decisions, decisions!
I was in the same boat and to be honest I just remembered how easy it was to switch maps on the fly with out relying on my laptop or having to do a particular sequence to change my boost. We all HAD the money to buy these cars so the 595 on an AP is really not that bad considering all you get. If you find members they are selling them as low as 400 used
My opinion? Competition makes products better. I've used open source for the last 4 years, on my old STi and now on the Evo, and I love it. But I'm a systems engineer by trade, so this stuff comes naturally. Hooking up a laptop, installing software, downloading definitions files, editing ROMs, etc. are all easy for me, but some people don't have that inclination. That's where the AP serves a need. If you're just going to get a custom tune by a tuner, ask them what they prefer. If you're only able to use off the shelf maps, maybe AP is the way to go.
