Smile stock cat, hi-flow cat, or strait pipe?

Will be picking up an exhaust soon (catback)....

keeping power in mind as well as yearly state inspections, should I leave the stock cat on there? or at least upgrade to a high-flow cat or just use a test pipe (cat delete)?

thanks!

IMO it depends on where you are located and the local laws. I'll be running a high flow cat because I'm in CA.

yeah good point, i live in NY and theyre pretty strict about that stuff here, so maybe I'd be best with a high flow cat.... no CELs should be produced either (right?)

I think some of them can throw a code, I would just do some research and searching around on the forums before you buy. With the right high flow cat there shouldn't be any CELs.

If you have a sniffer in your state, you'll at least need an HFC.

If you're just worried about the code, you can always tune that out and go with a straight pipe -- although the noise may make some inspection stations a little nervous.

The power difference between the resonated test pipe vs the milspec highflow cat(100 cell) is negligable. So i would get a hfc. Less noisy and less smelly.

I went with a straight test pipe because it was cheaper and I wanted more power. However, I would probably have gotten a HFC if I could do it over again so I wouldn't have to worry about inspection. It's probably only like a 5whp difference between cat or no cat.

Depends if you're getting tuned.

A tuner can tune a nice mil spec HFC to not thrown codes and you'll make good power, and be legal...

Otherwise, you need a restrictive cat to please the stock ecu and not throw a code...

Yup, no sniffer in NY. I run test pipe and there is a gas smell.... kind of annoying. My car came that way but I'm thinking of getting a HFC when I get a chance. The only thing is I'm tuned on the TP whether it would make a difference or not I don't know. A HFC from what I've read won't make much of a difference reducing the smoke though...... maybe reduce it a bit but not much.
