Thinking about an Evo
I am getting a little crap from friends for being 42 and buying what they call a kids car. But I dismiss it. Most people buy cars to get them from a to b. I have never been like that. It's about the time between a and b that I care about. Loud and uncomfortable is a great thing. It means the car has character and soul. Besides, a vette is a midlife crises car, not an Evo.
Thanks again

Thanks again
I'm 39 and driving an Evo. Anyone who labels the Evo as a kid's car is pretty ignorant when it comes to high performance automobiles. They probably buy the same mainstream crap as everyone else does....shame on them for not knowing any better.
38 here, as stated above, sports car with 4 doors and lower insurance. alot of people are actually suprised NOT to see some kid drivin it that parents bought for them....(i hate that, Teaches no responsibility).
43 here. All my friends drive comfortable "performance" Audis, BMWs, AM, Jags, blah, blah, blah, that are all nice and quiet with well appointed interiors (blah, blah, etc.) for going back and forth to work and dropping of the knuckleheads at school and parental stuff.
Those other brands give you do get the badge premium with those cars the bigger "see me" factor on the road. Which some want / need. Been there done that.
"Optionality" is what I was looking for in a car. Kinda like a mullet, biz in the front, party in the back. Goes fast and handles well, but seats five and does well in the snow (my requirements) and doesn't empty your wallet nearly as fast as S4 or M5. Its potential Track-able, AutoX-able (with respectable times), and Race-able at a reasonable price and my commutes are more interesting (and not traffic laden).
I took a little **** for driving a "kid's car" until they took a ride with me. Candidly, learning about the evo's rally history and how performance improvements have been rolled into the model were compelling.
After watching BBCs Top Gear and some 60 year old guy (Sir Jackie Stewart) burn up the track, I thought, I will get the Evo. Screw comfort.
Best,
P.S. - to stay thread relevant my best upgrades to date are a radar detector (you know why), a Broadway mirror (that wing) and a 32GB USB stick for music (drowning out road noise).

I'm 48. No one says that to me. Not friends, not family, not the neighbors. No one. Not a single person in my personal acquaintance has ever asked why I choose to drive what I do, or why I decided to buy an Evolution. Come to think of it, no one ever asked why I drove any of my previous cars, either. Folks would see me change into shorts and T-shirt out of a business suit at the end of the day, hop into an overly vocal 2,200lb contraption and drive away hanging-10 out of the lot. No one ever even mentioned it, save for one secretary who asked for a ride home.

traffic commute with a 5 speed stick was never an issue for me. matter of fact, i've only owned 2 automatic cars my entire life and it was just 2 years combined that i owned them. so sitting in traffic never really bothers me a bit. so i say, go with the GSR. sooner or later you will upgrade the suspension, brakes, engine, etc. so all the upgraded features of the MR wouldn't really matter at the end.
