Warranty question.

Hey everyone,

Was just curious if you get maintenance work done on the car(oil change, SST fluid and filter change, etc.) at a non-Mitsubishi shop, does that void the warranty?

I'm about ready to do the 25,000-30,000 mile check up, and I know it's a pricey one, so I was curious if I could shop around, or if that would void the warranty.

I figure if as long as I keep the receipts and the shop uses the correct brand fluids it would be ok.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks!

It shouldn't. Just keep records of anything you have done. I did a lot of the regular maintenance on my IX, and didn't have any problems when I had warranty issues...just as long as the issues aren't a direct result of you/the other shop screwing up, there isn't any way for them to void the warranty.

Also, talk to your Mitsu dealer re: your 30k service. I've been able to get good deals just by asking. Good luck!

If you can provide proof it was done then you should be fine. Doing it yourself is were its hard to prove.

Also when it comes to services like the 30K I would suggest going to a dealer to get it done. The service record is more solid if you have warranty issues later.

While under warranty, I would suggest going to the dealer as well. Just like FullBoost said, they will have it all kept in the computer system, so there is no way they can argue that you didn't get it done or that it was done wrong, as they were the ones doing it.

Not a dumb question at all. I remember there is a law stating that we don't have to go to dealerships to get the maintenance done. Oil changes are easy to prove in my opinion. Say, there is something wrong with your engine and it needs to be torn down. They can see from the sludge build up (or lack thereof) how often you change the oil.

Same thing with everything in the 25k to 30k mile maintenance list. Transmission and transfer case oil, air filters, what else am I missing?
