how NOT to blow a motor...
Very much this. I always explain to my tuner exactly how I use the car and what my expectations from the car are. For example, a tune for a hardcore drag-racer is far different from that of an autocrosser, track junkie, DD street warrior, etc. If the tuner isn't interested in hearing how you drive the car, and doesn't tune accordingly, then find yourself a new tuner who knows what those required differences are.
There was another thread on this that seemed to make a lot of guys paranoid. Implied that bogging or cruising in too high a gear will blow your engine.
Personally I think people are getting way too hung up on this. You would really have drive like jerk off to cause engine damage

I agree with the tuning aspect of this conversation. Clearly stating what you expect from the car is crucial when tuning since the tuner should technically respect and tune accordingly. As for going wot in rpm's like 2k and less is common sense since the car barely moves, and so naturally you should drop gears.
As for cruising in certain gears, I only think that matters when the car is new (low mileage) since there's some breaking in involved. After that, I think it's all about proper driving technique, not having a heavy foot 100% of the time and proper maintenance.

Just drive it.
What he said. ^^

thanks for the input everyone... i just wanted to make sure i didn't have to drive it differently than other cars i had (to preserve the engine). i just picked my my '12 WW GSR today! now to wait until the break-in is done... this is gonna take a LOT of self-restraint!
You have a brand new car so all this tuning chatter is superfluous. For you, brake it in easy and then don't ever mechanically overrev the motor: i.e shift from 4th to 2nd at 80mph.
Stock Evo x has a conservative redline and tune and as long as the motor is warmed up you can redline it no problem.

I am two motors in the hole, many things are to blame, but I guess it's tough on the tuning aspect as I still don't think there are a ton of "great" tuners out there for anything past bolt ons and pump gas for the X.
Any bigger turbo, E85, built motor etc. The list drastically shrinks from what I have found.
Easier said than done I think.

i might add to it about the professional tuner, some tuner called themself a proffesional tuner, but the reality is not sure they do a good tune. So make sure you search before you go to ANY tuners, and doenst matter what your friends say . Look up independet reviews a lot. Your whole investment deppending on it.
Also make sure you will down shift to the right grear, which is more problem then accelerating in the wrong gear. Accelerating in the wrong gear shouldnt blow your engine, period.
