Insurance: 'Pleasure car'

I'm looking for a beater car to drive for my 80+ mile commute to work. It's gonna be a liability only car. Just wondering if anyone else out there does this, and lists their EVO as a 'pleasure car' under insurance?? How much would my insurance rate go down if i list the EVO as a pleasure car?

I've heard the difference is night and day. In this case maybe insuring two cars would be less expensive than only having the EVO insured?

I have no idea/experience....but I'm sure the insurance company you plan on using will have some answers for you. Give them a call.

I did it. I am 34 year old with no accidents. My insurance actually went up $20. My beater car was a 00 civic si. When I sold the civic & dropped it from insurance... my insurance went back down by $20. I would assume that if you bought a 80s Kcar with liability only... your insurance should go down.

my other car is classed as my pleasure use vehicle, listed at less than 1000 miles per year. i wouldnt say it's night and day, but maybe a 25% decrease in my case for that 1 vehicle.

I have the same policy and it was a very little difference when I changed it to pleasure only.

It depends on many factors. Some insurance companies don't rate for mileage/vehicle use, while some do. Depending on the beater you get and your liability limits, I have actually seen insurance go down by adding a second car if the multi-vehicle discount is greater than the cost of liability only on the older car. Just call your insurance company and ask, and make sure to get quotes from multiple companies while you're at it!

My EVO is a "pleasure car" that i drive to and from work, and travel for the majority of my work on avg. 60miles per day up to 300 per day, progressive seems to be pretty reasonable with their rates and lack of mileage checks " Pleasure car"- it will be my pleasure to drive this car as much as i want. plus when i bought my evo in august last year i lowered my deductiable to 100$! since its such a pricey car to fix if someone were to hit me.

Also we insure my wifes RX8!

It seems Geico has one of the lowest insurance rates.

Give them a call and see what they say

PLEASE DONT CALL THEM.........how do you think they can afford to keep rates so low? by not paying out if anything ever happens. Please do some googling and you will find mountains of horror stories from geico.

Pleasure car, with StateFarm means your car has to remain under 7,500 miles driven for the year, and they send you a form to update it every once in a while with the current mileage on the car...

The insurance in my Evo was $197 m/o... I've had it as a pleasure car under my insurance since Dec last year and the premium went down to $112 a month

Definitely get a daily and park your Evo for the weekends

I use a 2001 Toyota Corolla as my daily transportation. My Evo has been stored since November. I only drive the car for pleasure and I have it rated that way with State Farm. Keeps the insurance costs down.

Awesome! if i can get a deal like this then the money I save would pay for insuring the beater. Do they ever check your actual mileage or can you BS that form?

I have State Farm as well, and yes, they do check up on the form every so often. Think of it as a tax audit. You can go your whole life without one, but if one does come along and you have been lying, it could be a problem. I have heard that they sometimes just switch you back to regular coverage and other times they drop you completely for lying on the form.

My current Evo and my past 2 other fun cars are/were all listed as pleasure vehicles. Staying under the 7,500 mile yearly limit is actually fairly easy as long as you have another car .

The savings are not always huge, but they are significant enough to warrant filling out a piece of paper once a year!

I highly recommend checking out State Farm. Great insurance company. I have been using them for almost 20 years now.

There are many factors that play a role in the amount of money that it costs to insure a vehicle. Your only way of knowing is to call the insurance company to get all the details and limits. What might be 30 bucks a month for one person is 150 for another.
