I did Springs, Sway and ETS Intake about a month after I got my 2012. Resisting until the warranty is past is too difficult. It's like waiting until you are married to have "intercourse"

leased an Evo?

Anyhow, check with your local dealer what is mod friendly
Most are cool with
--intake (drop in filter is a great way to go)
--intercooler pipes
--cat back

Definently start whenever you want! But beware... modding is HEAVILY ADDICTIVE ...(money pit=understatement)

My modding addictions make drug junkies look like they have a cheap hobby lol

I never understood modding a leased vehicle, unless of course you have intention to buy out the lease or when say modding mean ---->>>lightly modded lol... but definently to each their own

Im gonna mod a leased vehicle and save my stock parts. The only mods i will be doing will be reversable. As for when to start modding im gonna get a boost and a/f guages. I want to know how the car performs before mods and hope to keep things running correctly. At the moment i am super stock!

Leased mine to keep the payment lower. I am modding it. I'll just buy it when I am done. I paid 45 out the door because the car I traded was upside down so I was looking for as low a payment as possible. But I usually have a hard time thinking that far ahead. I always figure I wont be around by then. But then always comes fast.

It was that or pay $700 a month to buy it. No thanks. I'll take my very lightly modded lease for the next 48 payments.

I ordered all my parts when my car had 1k miles. I waited until I was at 2k miles have the parts installed and dyno tuned.

I leased my 2012 MR and plan to start modding after I hit 1K miles. All my mods will be relatively mild bolt-ons, eg, catback, UICP, Cobb, and intake, so it should be relatively easy to put everything back to stock. I leased it since I'm self-employed and can write-off 100% of the monthly payments. I plan to buy the car when my lease is up. Even if I don't keep the car at the end of the lease, the residual on the EVOs are always lower than the KBB private party price. Last time I checked, a 2008 EVO GSR was about 8K to 9K more sold as a private party than the remaining lease residual.

How much is the payment and for how many months when leasing? How much is due at signing? And how much will there be in residual after you fullfill the lease?

I'm not sure I totally agree with you. I think any of the drop-in panel filters should be acceptable to a dealer but MOST open element intakes seem to require a tune.

To the OP, mod at your own discretion. As tough as it is I've resisted the itch, leaving the car 100% stock for 15 months / 11,000 miles. I'll probably pick up the Cosworth of Works filter soon and enjoy that for a few thousand miles before a catback exhaust.
