unfortunate night...

whats up guys, just wanted to share my dumb *** driving skills. so last night i was messing around for shyts and giggles, and some how I managed twice to miss shift from 2nd back to 1st (very brief). ive own many cars in past, like fast cars to some, like 450whp 300zx twin turbo, M3, fpbalck evo, i now own a 2011 stock evo X. i was wondering if this has happen to anyone, so far car seems to run smooth as from when i picked it up when it was new, so im really not worried but kinda suxs.

guys have heard or HAVE A FRIEND that this has happen to? like to share? maybe will make me feel better lol..

But now I have ptsd from it lol. I have a hard time throwing it into 4th now

At least yours wasn't this bad. (foul language)

Were you trying to shift to 3rd and you went back to first on accident?

Other than getting into an accident, that's one of the things I'm most scared of doing.

Nope. Been driving standards for about 14 years and haven't missed a gear before. I have stalled out a few times though.

Back in the early 2000's a buddy of mine had a 96 Eclipse RS. I and another friend were in the car with him and he decided he wanted to race a friend of ours with a civic. They decided to do a couple of pulls from a dead stop. Seemed pointless to me because both cars were stock and very slow. But they wanted to see who's car was slower. I also had a phat sack of green on me so I just wanted to get home and was paranoid about the cops pulling us over.

Anyways the civic took us on the 1st run. The civic only had my friend in it. The Eclipse had me, and my 2 friends (they were pretty large). So I estimate we had about 700lbs between us. But the Eclipse took the civic on round 2. So they went for the rubber match. We (the eclipse) was ahead of the civic and thats when my friend shifted from redline 3rd to 2nd. The car slowed suddenly and screamed bloody murder . My friend in the civic said he saw a puff of smoke come from the exhaust when he did that.

A few days later the engine started making a knocking sound and was done within a month. But my friend was and still is an idiot. He's not even a ricer. More of a ricer wannabe.

Hahaha. My cousin did that in his eclipse as well. Like a 99 GS. I think he went from 3rd redline to 2nd. It blew both his belts off and his radiator cap off, or something like that. His engine died A while after that, but that was because of a head gasket so could have been unrelated.

And a Camaro driving in front of me one day shifted from 3rd to Reverse. Hahaha. Was not pretty. As soon as I saw the reverse lights come on I slammed on brakes and there wasn't anyone behind me, so it was ok, for me anyway.

Every once in great while i will in my 350Z - i immediately clutch in and let it come down easy... No damage AFAIK.

Should be okay - just be gentle for awhile..

Its your car and YOU did it and YOU will learn from it and You will try to avoid it in the future in your all out effort to take care of your car.
If you want to feel better: it could've been worse. You could've let a crazy friend drive, who doesn't appreciate the privelidge as much and miss-shifts and just giggles and shruggs it off leaving you to steam in anger.

My first driving lesson session i was driving an 86 Toyota Starlet. My instructor was this grumpy fifty-something year old man who tought he was just serious......but he was always grumpy. After the whole fixing of the seat checking the mirror he proceeds to explain how to change gears. He shows me exactly how to position my hand to shift from 2nd to 3rd. All the while i'm thinking: "whatever man i got this". We start to drive and i go from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to "3rd" and......VRRREEEEEEEEEEEEMMMM.
Lets just say that when after the engine revd and returned to idle his mouth started to rev. He let me have it.

i think its the way i position my hand in the shifter and i try to quick shift into 3rd it makes me put it in 1st, so i just decided to slow the shift from 2 to 3 and not fck up the car....as of right now car been running smooth so no complains, but im sure its not good for it, im actually surprised this happens, i once had a rental and i was trying to mess with it and it wouldnt even let me do it from 2 to 1 unless i as below like 15/20mph, im surprised as sophisticated as the evo is, it doesn't have any safety prevention.

I used to have an r34 GTR this was after my evo7 and the change from the evos 5fwd to that close 6 in the skyline i made a couple mistakes dropping into 3rd from 5 instead of 6 and the occasional one as the op stated, not too detrimental just hurt the pride. But the evo x seems like an average 5 to me no probs.

Not calling you a liar, but I find that hard to believe considering even pro drivers miss gears in all forms of racing.

I've missed gears once or twice so far. Just started driving manual not even a year ago so I think that's pretty good

Dont feel bad, I missed a shift on an SST in manual mode when I was going against a ZR1 that was modded (at least tuned and exhaust). Why? The sound it made while it was WOT made me come all over the place and I forgot to shift.
